Default previews and menus vs actual movie resolution

This is really starting to bug me. I watch the previews and see the menus for the DVD's and Blu-rays,and they seem to almost be in a different resolution.
Most of the movies look great, once you get to them, but the previews often display lots of artifacts, and don't look the same as the movie itself.
Some of the menus look downright terrible.
Could someone explain why this is or someway to make the movie and previews/menus look the same?.

The menus and previews are what they are, no way to make them look better.

My guess is that some studios use the same for both the DVD and BR releases since both formats can play the DVD formatted items while only the BR can play the items formatted for BR.

I guess what I'm really asking is, are the menus and previews in say a different resolution than the movie? Say I'm watching the movie in 1080i or 1080p, are the menus and previews shown in 720 or 480 ?
That would explain a lot.

one question do by the Blu ray for the previews, the main menu or the actual movie.

personally as long as the movie is good quality I don't care.

You could try, with the player set to output everything without upscaling, pressing Info/Display on your TV in the different sections (as well as on your Blu-ray player if you have an option there to display resolution and if it lets you in those places), and see what resolution it is there.

Menus can be just as high res as the rest (eg. full HD). Previews/trailers/extras can sometimes be SD.

The resolution of extras will depend on the title itself. If it's a film that was made & released within the last few years, there's a big chance the extras (eg. "making of") will be in HD. Older titles will more likely have SD features copied from the DVD.

Also, for pop-up menus, they will be at the same resolution as the main film I'd think.

If you look on the back of the case, it may also tell you eg. "Special Features: 480i/p Standard Definition" or whatever resolution they are.
