Default Best TV for gaming?

I'm a pretty big movie guy but I'm also a pretty avid gamer and I'd say I split my time between the two about 50/50.

Anyway, would an LCD-LED be better for gaming or a Plasma? What I'm curious about is mainly the motion of the images/characters on screen and which one offers less motion blur, particularly in videogames. I'm not a fan of the "soap opera" look when it comes to movies but I'd prefer something like that for games though I HAVE heard something about it causing a "image delay" of sorts in LCDs???

Do a lot of you play games on your plasmas? What is considered to be the best kind of TV for gaming? I currently have a 50" Samsung LED-Projection TV, which is good and all, but in the next few months I'm going to strongly consider a new TV...probably something in the 55" range.

I ask because everyone in here seems very helpful and "in the know" about these sorts of things. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I went with a 55 samsung LED from last year (un55c8000) and I really like it. I also was heavily considering a panasonic plasma but I was also worried about burn in since I watch a ton of sports and video games, I hear the screen burn-in issue isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.

I'm not sure about all LED but on my set you can adjust the "soap opera" effect to your liking, I like it when watching live sports and concerts, I adjust it as needed. And... as far as the delay, the samsung offers a "gaming" mode that cuts down on any lag (i never notice any)

People have always said LCD is a gamers TV. Why that is the case I have no idea but all I can say is gaming on my 50GT30 (PLASMA) is perfect (no motion lag) and I strongly advise that if you go for plasma make sure its Panasonic. Samsung and LG may be cheaper but you get what you pay. I too having had 5 LCD HDTV in the past was worried about burn in when considering Plasma but honestly especially with a Panasonic you could try all day long to try and cause burn in and get nowhere. Not saying it cant happen but when I first got my TV I was worried about turning the damn thing on for more than 5 minutes and now I game on it for hours on end and don't even get image retention. So my answer is go for PLASMA and make it a PANASONIC. You wont regret!

LCD has input lag, Plasma does not. IR is no longer an issue with Plasma. Plasma is the way to go unless your in a sunroom or something and use the TV during the day.

Isn't Image Retention a problem with gaming, due to HUD's permanently on the screen with some games?

IR is still a problem with Plasma, Burn-in not so much anymore. IR will go away quickly.

Plasma hands down is better for gaming!

leaning towards plasma because its also a matter of getting more screen for the $$$.

are there any websites that have some sort of "comparison pics" of games being played on plasma and LCD?

Default Factor

I'm in a similar situation with playstation 3 gaming being the main factor. However, my debate is choosing a Panasonic plasma or LED. I have three HDTVs under consideration. Two are the Panasonic 42" ST30 plasma and 37" DT30, which is LED. I really like the thinness and how light LEDs are. I have seen good reviews regarding gaming on the 37DT30 Panasonic model via Amazon.com. My decision is going to be a tough one but I do want to spend my money's worth.

No, plasma is not!

The truth is, as long as you stay within your budget, any set you choose will be just fine for gaming. Since gaming should never be your top priority when shopping for a display, when you get to the point of choosing between 2 or 5 or 7 sets that meet your criteria, the gaming performance will follow.

I personally prefer plasma for gaming and regular TV viewing. I have 2 young boys that play games on my plasma and from time to time leave games on pause for 20-30 minutes with no burn in issues. My Plasma is a Polaroid that is 6 years old and it still looks as good as the day we got it. With advancements in plasma technology and Panasonic and Samsung being better quality than Polaroid, you should have no issues with gaming on a plasma.
