Default New to BLU!

Hi all,
I just recently purchased a BLU RAY player on 01.13.2007, actually it was a birthday present from my wife. I got the whole setup now, PANSONIC 50" PLASMA TV with 1080P as well as a PANSONIC 42" PLASMA 1080P for the bedroom and PANASONIC 5.1 Surround Sound and the PANSONIC BLU RAY PLAYER. Now my home theather is complete after 3 months of debating of getting a blu ray or nothing. I'm glad I did though. At first I didn't like the fact that ALL BLU RAY & HD DVD is nothing but fake (CGI ANIMATION), but after looking in the stores today, I went back out and purchased one. Everything is connected through HDMI cables, so I'm good. I'm glad that I switched over, only thing that I dislike is the black bars on the top and bottom of every movie, with my up conversion DVD player I could set it so it fills the screen, but who cares now. Anyway, was thinking about picking up the RE Triology, is it worth it? Also, what other movies are good to see the full potential of what blu ray can really do? Hope to hear from everyone soon.

Hi all,
Well, that was some pretty quick replies. I only posted this thread less than and hour ago and already got 3 replies. Any ideas of what movies to get. Only so far getting, Wild Hogs, Full Metal Jacket, American Psycho, S.W.A.T. and Species (Free with Blu Ray purchase). I have over 200 movies on dvd, but only wanna replace the ones I really like. For instance, Shooter, Ghost Rider, Transformers, and Resident Evil Trilogy, Edward Scissor Hands and possibly the Labirynth (not on blue yet). What did you all do with your dvd collection? Keep them or got cash to get some blu's?

Ok, here's my top picks that are a must have for showing off what High Definition picture quality is all about. I can't comment on audio quality though as my Onkyo 805 receiver is to arrive anyday now so that I can finally kick my surround system into overdrive!

DOCUMENTARY FOOTAGE = 'Galapagos'... 10 times better than 'Planet Earth'
ANIMATION = 'Cars'... by far the best picture I have ever seen, period.
LIVE ACTION = 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 2' or 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 3'

Honorable mentions = Casino Royale, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Crank, Flags Of Our Fathers, G.I. Jane, Hairspray, Happy Feet, The Island (Import from Europe), The Prestige, Primeval (crap movie though), Speed, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Swordfish, Training Day, and Troy... just to name a few of my 150 titles.

Welcome!

I would definitely go with the Pirates Trilogy, they are great movies and everyone loves seeing them in Blu quality. In terms of animation Cars and Ratatouille are great movies. Most people do not realize that computer animated movies offer some of the biggest differences. Casino Royale is also a good way to go if you are even slightly a bond fan.

I am selling off my DVD's if there is a Blu alternative and I think there is a good reason: amazing action sequences, great audio options, or incredible scenes.

I would recommend going to amazon and seeing all the Blu-ray movies they have listed or look here: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php and use that as a guide. It is much easier than typing in names of movies to see if there is a Blu version.

Hi all,
I got some good movies while I was out today and spent a lot of money, I guess it's worth it, you only live once, so enjoy right right?!? I got Con Air, Fifth Element, Alien vs Predator, The Pirates Trilogy, Resident Evil Trilogy and the Spider-Man Trilogy! I was watching the fifth element and it didn't look at all that clear compared to silent hill when I rented it the other day. I could see the pixels and distortion a bit while watching it. My regular dvd copy looks better (at least you can't see the pixels).

Welcome! You sure do like Panasonic huh? lol. I would recommend the RE Trilogy it looks awesome! The Pirates trilogy is also really great. A lot of the Disney/Buena Vista movies have great transfers. GoodFellas is surprisingly good considering how old it is. Also just look through the movie reviews on this site and I'm sure you can get a lot of ideas.

Default Fuzzy Picture...

Is it me or is there a fuzzy picture on all the blu ray disc? I am watching Resident Evil, and the picture quality isn't too great. That goes for Con Air and The Fifth Element. Any one else have the same problem? It's not all crystal clear to me. The one that I have seen crystal clear image is on Underdog (rented it cause the wife wanted to see it again). That picture was beyond high def.

There are some movies that has grain in them but they are still clear. After you watch Blu-ray for about a month you will never look at DVD the same again. Welcome to Blu-ray!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default Help please...

Thanks for everything guys. I turned down the sharpness to 0 and everything on my picture settings to "0". Should I have it on Normal, Cool or Warm? Right now, I think it is on Warm. Also, is there anything else I can do to help with the grain on the picture? Should sharpness be in the negatives? I have it set on "0" at the moment. Anyway, I love the quality and sound blue has to offer, but I want to know if there are any other settings I can change to make the picture looker better and no grains (noticable). Also, how long does it takes to get the movies in the mail? Someone told me 5 weeks tops. Is that true? Thank you.
