Germany Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure (2003) Blu-ray 3D [Region B Locked] [IMAX]

I just received Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure 3D Blu-ray from amazon.de and while Germany is notorious for cranking out lot of poor conversions - this one is a real winner.

Unfortunately it is Region B locked and there don't appear to be any plans to release it in the USA, but if you are an IMAX fan, this is a must for those who can play Region B titles.

The film was shot on location in the Borneo rainforest, in native 3D, with cameras that magnify the insects up to 250,000 times their normal size. I watched on my 3D projection set-up and it was pretty awe-inspiring.

Judi Dench narrates and the music is lively - it reminds me a bit of the old Disney "True Life Adventure" nature films in that we are introduced to a few specific insects (a praying Mantis, a caterpillar, etc), and we follow them through their life-cycle. Other critters make appearances, a lizard, a snake, a gecko and bunch of bats - all in 3D. The film also has a bit of a shock-ending (LOL) - I won't spoil it, but I was genuinely surprised by how the film ended. I suppose it may be a little distressing for very young kids.

The 3D Blu also has a few 2D special features (I haven't watched those yet).

Here is the Blu-ray.com link:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bugs-...Blu-ray/26830/

There is also an an older, inferior anaglyph red/blue glasses version - it is here:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bugs-Blu-ray/4407/

For those in the USA, there was a real 3D version of this film released in the Sensio format years ago which works when the Side By Side setting of many 3D TV's is activated.

It is now out of print and very hard to find - here is the link at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Rainforest-Adv...4888170&sr=1-6

I have an unplayed original copy of the Sensio Side By Side 3D DVD that I'd be willing to sell to someone on this board. I'd only ask what I paid for it in return. Feel free to PM me if interested.

This does look interesting indeed! I think it will be a lot more of an experience than Canyon, Space Station or similar. My interest tended to wane a little with those types as the subject matter was very limited. I reckon the Bugs will have much more variety .. and I can imagine some lovely pop too.

Hope it gets a UK release as importing them can work out a ridiculous price.

I saw this in IMAX (15/70) and it was damn impressive - I'm assuming Image will release this at a future date.

Default Bugs 3D Movie

No, not A Bug's Life this: http://www.amazon.de/Bugs-Abenteuer-...ywords=bugs+3d

The wife and I watched this yesterday evening after work. This rain forest documentary about bugs is very interesting and kids are sure to like it. We were very impressed with this 40 minute film. The music is great (Judi Dench narrates). There is jazzy noir type music, sweeping movie sound track like pieces and more. All of tunes are very catchy also. The main thread follows the life of a caterpillar from that stage to a butterfly and a katydid. Along the way we see many other bugs in this rain forest. The end of the movie is a bit sad.

If you are into nature documentaries this is a very good one but it's not region free. I have a Oppo 103 that has the outside mod and I'm glad that I have access to 3D blu ray films like this. I saw this years ago before 3D TVs were out. I had the cardboard red n blue glasses. This is the real deal and the PQ is great as is the ambient sounds of the rain forest which is another thing I noticed and was very happy about. With a surround sound system you will also notice how well the sounds of a rain forest shine through. I didn't notice any pop outs in this IMAX movie but depth is very evident. If you have a region free player, check this one out. I also picked up another World Natural Heritage 3D disc (see my thread about World Natural Heritage 3D). This one deals with Hawaii. We haven't watched it yet but I'll post how we liked it ASAP. Here is a link to it and like other WNH 3D blu ray disc, it's region free. http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I really liked this documentary. The ending, yeah, was kind of a downer. The 3D is really good, unfortunately it is region B locked. But I do have a multi region player.

Hey Atom,

Glad to hear that you liked it. I don't think there are too many nature lovers here as these types of post don't draw the flies err bugs! To bad as these are better than the weak Hollywood 3D films as far as technique.

Thanks. I've seen it listed but have not viewed it. I'll look into that one. How is the 3D and how does it compare to Bugs overall?

Corrections: Its about a caterpillar/butterfly and a praying Mantis and there are some shallow pop outs.

I just watched the 3D Blu of FLIGHT OF THE BUTTERFLIES and really enjoyed it. Now I think I gotta see BUGS!, which is apparently from the same filmmakers. It’s now on my list!

Best place to buy this is probably Amazon Germany!
