I was about to by it but just noticed that the UK BD by is a 25GB disc while the US BD is a 50GB. So I need to know how is the quality of UK BD? Both use the same codec so whats missed in UK BD? Extras or what? or is this the Audio because in US BD there are many Audio options?
The Departed UK Blu-ray https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-D...-Blu-ray/8112/ The Departed US Blu-ray https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-D.../356/#Overview Please reply, Thanks. Last edited by BigNickUK; 01-26-2022 at 11:14 AM. |

From what I can tell the US set has LPCM audio and the UK DTS-MA (the German version has AC3) there isn't much difference in file sizes the US has 26GB movie file size and the UK 22 the German one has 19GB.
Bitratewise the US is 22, UK 19 and Germany 17mbps. I haven't seen the discs but I doubt there's a huge difference video qualitywise. |

I doubt there's any difference in video because the old HDDVD (there were 2 in fact HDDVD-DVD Combo + HDDVD) were single sided -have Warner went back and redone it for Blu-ray? I reckon not. There's also Blu-ray Steelbooks which also look to be a direct port.
The UK Blu-ray is fab http://www.dvdtherapy.com/review_info.php?id=1915 I own the HDDVD and see no difference to my UK Blu-ray. What all the HD discs are missing though is the "Scorsese On Scorsese" (85 minutes) documentary which is on the US 2 disc DVD. This doesn't seem to be on any of the other 2 discers (including the DVD Steelbooks). Get the cheapest/nicest looking packaging. I have the $2 HDDVD, the £3 DVD Steelbook, the $3 2DVDSE and the £5 UK Blu-ray. I've got all bases covered and it was cheap ![]() £5.99 at Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000PC1MNM and HMV http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProduct...;-1&sku=611096 isn't too shabby. |

On reflection the HDDVD must have been different as single sided discs were 15GB. These HDDVD Combos were 'flipper' discs.
Worth remembering too the US and UK Blu-rays will be AB (although the UK disc is marked "B" -but I just checked it and it's fine on an A machine). Having just had a look at my discs I can see no difference video wise. I'd just go for the UK version if I were buying now. |

The video bitrate on the UK version is actually slightly higher (the higher overall bitrate on the US disc is due to the uncompressed LPCM track). But I seem to recall comparing the releases some time ago and the differences were not significant.

Could be a player (PS4) issue as the disc has been out for so long but has anyone else noticed that the English subs are out of sync? They appear seconds before the actual dialogue or sound effects.

So I tried to play my UK EiV disc of this and it won’t play anymore, the disc cannot be read at all. Thought some people might want to make sure if their copy still works ok.
That seems to be quite a few EiV discs now that have become unplayable for some people, I’ve noticed Red Cliff and The Book of Eli have been mentioned here by some folk and now The Departed. My EiV copy of Deception also won’t play either and the discs all look fine, so it must be a manufacturing problem with some of their early releases which is causing them to become unreadable down the line. ![]() Last edited by Indiana Jonezzz...; 01-25-2022 at 10:11 PM. |

Will have to check that now, along with any other EIV discs I have. I've had similar issues with early Optimum BDs as well, Whiteout & The Losers. |
