That's just one country, over in the UK Sky have a dedicated 3D channel and the BBC have run some 3D too, simulcast with regular HD on another channel.

3D isn't going to go away, it won't be long until all new tv's are 3D enabled, once that happens anyone with a 3D set is going to give it a go. It won't become the norm like HD will, but it will be an additional option for certain broadcasts.

I don't have a 3D set, but sometime next year I make take the plunge.

I got mine.

Though, I don't watch broadcast or cable anyway.

It's great for the 3D Blus!

If 3d is being tuned out, I guess no one has told Best Buy since they have 3d displays and are devoting a good portion in their Home Video section to 3d.

Despite the continued doom and gloom reports, 3DTV is still penetrating, albiet more slowly then some people predicted - although I think the big predictions were more about creating buzz than being realistic.

It also deserves mentioning that what little 3D broadcasts are available, at least in my area, are horrible. I really enjoyed ESPN3D, but the content is way to limited. They just loop the same few games - 3D or not, who watches the same material everyday. And the comcast 3D channel was an insult to intelligence - ribbon twirling, a cheap animation then dragon dancers does not make for compelling entertainment no matter the format.

Not much to read in the article other than more bias I'm afraid.

Why is this even being posted? Man! Enough of these doom and gloom articles. These have been posted on here for over a year now..........and guess what?

Alexandros, are you even into 3D? If not, why come in here and "gloat" that it's failing in another country! Does this make you happy to "try" to derail something many people like? How about if I come and sh&*% in your bowl of cornflakes because I don't like unsweetened cereal?

If you are into it, why?

Edit: OK.......I see you're from Australia. Makes a little more sense now.

What is wrong with Australians? We are a little slower than the rest of the developed world to catch on to new tech, yes, but some of us have. Come on though, our country only has the population of New York state!
That and we are the descendants of criminals...

LOL. Mis-interpretation. Sometimes e-mail, electronic communication can be vewy vewy twicky. I "understand" more now that I see that he is from Austrailia. I didn't look for his place of residence. It makes more sense to me now understanding how this isn't taking off in that part of the world from his point of view.......possibly. THAT part I understand. Still tired of these stupid doom and gloom articles. Let it rest and see where it goes 5+ years from now.

Well, mostly the fact that everybody with too hasty a chip on their format-shoulder reads articles about how badly new tech does in UK and Australia (when it's usually the US and Japan that should know about these things ), takes it 100% out of context, holds it up to the folks back home and say "Oh noez, it's flopped on our own Maple Street! "--Which is supposed to frighten us, but instead, makes them look completely clueless, and gives comfort to us good, smart adopters.

Not meant to single out Australia in particular, although.....well, okay, now that you're here, what WAS it with the whole "Exporting Yahoo Serious" thing, anyway?
And don't say "oh, that was twenty years ago"--What, he makes a couple of beer jokes, and all of a sudden he's Jerry Lewis?

I agree totally with both of you.
3D seems to be doing fine. Even here, despite what the OP says.
The 3D channel is on Foxtel. Aussie cable. Next to NOBODY has Foxtel. Cable TV itself has not taken off here, it is no wonder the 3D channel is suffering...

I plan on getting my next tv in around 3 years. Is 3D likely to be built into tvs still by that time? With the focus on Smart tvs (yuk!) i have to wonder.

As far as I'm concerned Australia is one up on us in the US.

I was checking out Australia's version of Netflix and they offer 3D movies to rent. Our big name online rental services in the US do not offer 3D movies to rent and may never offer them to rent.

Cheers!

Especially considering the same selective-statistics fallacy we lived through back during the Blu-ray bashing war:
"An instant failure, nobody's buying the players....IF YOU DON'T COUNT THE PS3'S, of course."

(Oh, of course not ....I suppose the industry might have hobbled itself in the foot somewhat, for Sony to give a few hundred thousand 3-D Blu players away to its customers for free. They won't make any profit back on that.)

What really irritates me about that chart is that whoever put it together doesn't even know anything about modern 3D - all the glasses they show in the image are red/blue anaglyph technology from 70 years ago...
