From Wikipedia:

Quote:
At the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Square Enix showed a trailer of a director's cut of the movie, titled Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete for release on the Blu-ray disc format. New scenes will be added to the movie, including one where Sephiroth impales Cloud with his sword and then lifts his body up into the air. The movie will also benefit from high-definition video and audio that the Blu-ray format offers. However, only a Japanese release has been confirmed so far, but is likely to be released elsewhere if the popularity of the Blu-ray format continues to grow. The cut will be released in mid 2007.
I'm not a big fan of the movie but no doubt I won't be able to resist a crispy-fresh Blu-ray version of it.

Cool. Hopefully it will have a PCM soundtrack on it. There is some good music there.

I don't pre-order much, but I will all over this. I may even import it if the Japan and USA release differ. I imported the SD version.

On the subject of video game films, it seems that the Halo film could be exclusive to BD (Fox), and MGS (Universal) exclusive to HD DVD, weird.

Isn't Halo on hold because studios wouldn't finance? That was what MS said a while ago. Although I don't understand, given the fact that they can buy a few studios alltogether, what was the prob. financing the movie themselves.

Good.

Rarely do we see videogames translated into good movies. Doom anyone?

The only thing this FF movie had going for it, IMO, was a great score by Elliot Goldenthal. It's probably the best music he's ever done, or close to it.

I'm kind of surprised to see some of the positive reactions to this. I though this thing was almost universally maligned, or least universally "indifferent."

You underestimate the amount of Final Fantasy fans out there. The movie was awesome because it brought life back to the FF7 world, and a lot of us have fond memories of playing the game back on the PS1. So just in that sense, the movie was spectacular, not the mention the amazing CGI ontop of all that.

Agreed. Remember the frenzy created by the FF7 tech demo for the PS3. I guarantee if they remake FF7 on the PS3 it will be the best selling PS3 game.
