I like to know why too? Any insiders?
Interestingly is I always find blu-rays discs with dTS-MA pairing with Dolby Digital for non-lossless play; they don't go like dTS-MA with non-lossless DTS. Or if the blu-ray disc offers lossy audio only as in some animes, then it is Dolby Digital. |

If so, that could be two reasons. 1) if they are the same language/stream, then that will be because DTS is included in DTS-MA and so there is no need for it separately. As for why would they include DD, that is hard to say since it is not needed (anyone that cares will have equipment that accepts DTS or DTS-MA and anyone that does not care the BD player can output as plain audio) 2) if it is different languages or setups (i.e. one 7.1 while the other is the original stereo/mono) then it could be that they reused the DD from the DVD since they did not bother going lossless. and DD was more prominent on DVD |

"With DTS-HD becoming the primary audio codec on Blu-ray Disc, DTS continues to look for ways to streamline production workflow for our customers for both 2D and 3D Blu-ray Disc, as well as online digital delivery," says Ronny Katz, Director of Professional Audio, DTS, Inc. "Our DTS-HD Encoder is already the fastest lossless audio encoder for Blu-ray disc. Our goal with version 2.5 is to deliver even higher efficiency and automation, and to address the demands of 3D production. We are proud to introduce the truly one-of-a-kind Neural UpMix plug-in that will help content creators match 3D video with an immersive 7.1 surround sound experience."
source: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4436 The studios will opt for the most efficient and cost effective lossless audio encoding, DTS HD MA (about 90% of the time in 2011). The conclusion is better engineering and marketing at DTS than at Dolby for this audio market segment. |

Perhaps that's why Sony if that had to choose chose DTS-HD for 3D support on the PS3.

so DTS HD is more advantageous to use for the Major and somehow BD.com was involved in this choice ![]() ![]() |
