In an early announcement to retailers, independent British distributors Artificial Eye have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Asghar Farhadi's A Separation (2011). Earlier this year, A Separation was the stand out film of the 2011 Berlin Film Festival and winner of the prestigious Golden Bear Award. Street date is October 24th.

Written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, the film boasts a range of superb performances from the ensemble cast who collectively received the Silver Bears for both Best Actor and Best Actress at the Berlinale. The compelling narrative is driven by a taut and finely written script rooted in the particular of Iranian society but which transcends its setting to create a stunning morality play with universal resonance.

When his wife (Leila Hatami) leaves him, Nader (Peyman Moadi) hires a young woman (Sareh Bayat) to take care of his suffering father (Ali-Asghar Shahbazi). But he doesn't know his new maid is not only pregnant, but also working without her unstable husband's (Shahab Hosseini) permission. Soon, Nader finds himself entangled in a web of lies manipulation and public confrontations.

A Separation is the first ever Iranian film to be awarded the Golden Bear Award.

This looks outstanding, I will pick this up if/when the price drops a few pounds.

Was this release delayed, or something of the sort? Amazon UK keeps pushing the shipping date back for me. First it was a couple of weeks, now an entire month.

Yes it seems to have been delayed - it's not in stock anywhere yet.

It was initially called region-free on the site mentioned above, but then they changed it and said it was region 'B' locked, and only the advanced screeners were region free. I just got mine in the mail yesterday, and it says Region B on the back (although, I don't know if it would actually say that it's region free if it was). Anyway, for now I think it is NOT region-free unless if someone says otherwise.

I don't have a region-free player yet, but really want to buy one (don't know which ones I should be looking at), so I'm not going to open my copy until I either buy a new player or someone confirms that miraculously, it is region free. Hopefully the latter

I have a finished copy of this release, and we will have a review shortly. (We could not review it earlier because there were distro and supply issues).

The disc is REGION-B "LOCKED"

I like Tooze's site, but his info is sometimes inaccurate. And for what it's worth, he also admits to only testing for Regions A and B and that he doesn't bother to check Region C capability anymore.

I completely agree. My favorite film of 2011. I ended up getting a region-free capable player and played the disc. Really happy with the release.
