Spain Victor Erice Collection - Jun 15

The Spanish branch of retailer giant FNAC has started selling an exclusive English-friendly 2BD/2DVD set containing two films by Spanish director Victor Erice. The Victor Erice Collection contains the director's legendary El espíritu de la colmena a.k.a The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) and El Sur (1983).

The Spirit of the Beehive is widely regarded as the greatest Spanish film of the 1970s. In the U.S., the film is currently available on DVD via the Criterion Collection.

June 15th? 2012?

Wow. This is called an exclusive, anything like the exclusive we have with Amazon, Best Buy, & Wal-mart where it exclusivity is for a few months?

The only thing I know about FNAC is that their prices are pricey and their shipping maybe even more so?

I've ordered from FNAC once before, ironically to get their exclusive DVD of Erice's The Quince Tree Sun. I don't think that's been made available anywhere else since.

I'm mighty tempted to get this - as far as I know there's never been an English-friendly release of El Sur, and The Spirit of the Beehive is an all-time favourite of mine. But I'd like to know more about the quality of the transfers.

This set is quite pricey and I wondered if anyone had seen it, and could comment on the quality please?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you wait for a possible Criterion release

C'mon, you have to tell us more than that!!!

Both films, or just The Spirit of the Beehive (which I'd expect Criterion to release eventually)?

Is that just a rumor, or has something been hinted from Criterion?

The problem with waiting on a Criterion release is that the films I expect and wait on, don't show up, but a lot of the ones I didn't expect are released and sometimes you miss the chance of getting an alternative before it goes out of print which is why I'm reluctant buying Criterion DVDs at the minute. I don't mind spending £15-20 on a DVD if I know there is not going to be a Blu-ray, but you can never be sure hehe. A good example is Bresson, I'm so shocked a Blu-ray of his work hasn't been released yet!

Sorry for the slow reply. It is an exclusive to http://fnac.es/ and I haven't used them before, so I'm not sure how their shipping fees are. I believe shipping within Europe is 10 euro minimum.
