Default Paired movies

Sometimes similar movies come out at nearly the same time. Generally this almost begs comparison. For example, it's hard not to talk about The Illusionist without also mentioning "The Prestige". Planned or not, duelling studios pit these movies against each other and ultimately consumers determine the "victor". Here's a couple examples I can think of off the top of my head.

The Illusionist (September 2006)
The Prestige (October 2006)
Two movies set in the early 20th century about magicians, deception, and murder.

Also:
Despicable Me (July 2010)
Megamind (November 2010)
Two animated family movies with supervillains as lead characters who have a change of heart.

Can you think of any more?

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (January 2009)
Observe and Report (April 2009)
Both about security guards at shopping malls

A little more time between these two
The Matrix (March 1999)
Dark City (February 1998)
*I believe they even used some of the same sets.

It's scary how many similar films were released so close to each other. Do people just pitch the idea to different movie studios? These all can't be coincidences.

You guys thought of all the good ones. The only other thing that comes to mind is, the super hero movies we got this year.

Thor
X-Men FC
Green Lantern

Same thing next year too, with The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Think of all the sci-fi films that were released in the 50s. War of the Worlds, This Island Earth, The Thing From Another World, etc.

I don't think I have seen this many in one year before. I'm not really counting movies like Kick-Ass, or Watchmen either. Just Marvel and DC.
