Same here. The only time I'll open them right away if I'm not planning on watching them immediately is if it sounds like there's a floater in the case. I'll open it to check and make sure the disc plays ok. That seems to happen quite a bit with MGM releases unfortunately.

The excorcist if I remember was shot in 35mm film so 4k would benefit it in a way only technology can provide.
With 4k tvs hitting the homes this year and mid next year and becoming mainstream around 2013-2014, I don't see 1080p going for a while.
as i am only into collecting horror movies especially old ones would 4k benfet any of them also would it be on a blu ray type disk?

Same here. I even put it in the player and skim through the movie, to see how it looks! Crazy, isn't it?!

Bluray at the moment for consumer has a storage space of 128gb. Sony will be releasing a 500gb in 2012 so yes, bluray is here to stay for a while, it will just get bigger and bigger. And no, I don't say what about hologram disks, they rant for distribution media. Soon, films will be over the air and no longer be physical media.

That'd be hilarious if someone kept a bluray to preserve it in its shrinkwrap only for years later when it gets sold as a collectible it has the wrong movie inside

I open all mine right away. Even if I don't watch them right then, I still like to inspect the disc to make sure everything looks good.

No! I don't know anybody else on this earth, who'll buys duplicate blu-ray movies ( one to keep, and one to sell.) Initially, if you're planning on reselling one of the copies, then why buy it in the first place? That doesn't make sense! It'll be logical, if you are buying two copies, to give one as a gift, that would be different.

If this is what you've been doing, you're wasting your money BIG TIME! Blu-ray movies are purchased to be watched, and enjoyed as a hobby, and entertainment, not used for household decorations.

No. There's no point to leaving a BD sealed and then putting it on your shelf. If it's something I am going to buy I am usually going to watch it within a few months of purchase. That's been my argument with the guys here who have 2000 or 3000 BDs and half of them are still in the original shrink-wrap. There's no way they are going to watch them all and they simply have an addiction that's no different than alcoholism or smoking.

haha i hope i can trust it has the right disk in there. the only reason i buy a second copy of a metal slip edition is because they become OOp very quickly and raise in value and rarity. i think its smart to buy a movie now for $30 and sell it a year later for $100+

Don't count your chickens, before they hatch! What if that particular "Metal Slip Edition, doesn't become OOP, and valuable, then you are going to be stuck with two "Metal Slip Editions" (whatever those are!)
