Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door BD out January 25th in Japan - Blu-ray Forum

I don't watch much anime, but CB got me hooked a couple years ago. I'd like to know if there were any plans announced to bring it to blu-ray seeing how it was pretty big back then (I can't find anything now, but I know that there's anime on blu-ray in japan right now). Also, I like the english dubs in this particular series so I'd much prefer an english version. Thanks to anyone with info.

Nothing in the US has been announced yet. Authoring costs are still too high for vendors of that size to get into things and make money. The closest we might get is if Sony releases some of their theatrical movies, such as the Bebop movie.

Only a handful of releases are out in Japan as well. Anime isn't leading the forefront of things this time, not that it did with DVD either. It took about a year and a half from the launch of DVD for anime to really get going. They did have more releases early on that we have on either format now though, but the incentive was stronger to move from two separate VHS releases to a single DVD.

A little while back it popped up on a "To Be Announced" HDDVD release list, which got speculation running high, but it has since been removed from that list.

Hopefully it will be one of the first series to hit Bluray. It deserves a nice hi-def release.

I know that this question is semi-pointless since information is scarce.

What does everyone think the chances of Cowboy Bebop (the movie and/or the series) coming out on blu-ray. And who would it be distributed through?

I'm not all excited about many anime releases possibly coming to blu-ray. But Bebop is something that I would make an exception on. I think that they would making a killing if they released it.

The movie was published in the US by Sony, so obviously if it ever sees a high def release it will be blu-ray. I cannot comment or speculate on the series though, since I don't know where Bandai stands in all of this.

Well Bandai announced Jin-Roh on blu-ray recently.

Apparently they've announced more on blu-ray and hd-dvd in Japan.

I believe the Cowboy Bebop Movie should be out on Blu in the UK sometime in January. Since it is being done by Sony, it should be region free.

This is all pending that it didn't quietly get pushed back/delayed/etc.

Rad is like my all time favorite 80's korn ball classic. It reminds me of a simpler time in my life

Yes, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and Steamboy are coming out in the UK on Jan 7, and expect them to be released in the US around the same time or soon afterwards.

Ooo... I have seen the series on DVD, and the movie in theaters and on DVD.... but I don't own it myself!
I want to and was considering buying the 5.1 remix of it, but now with this idea.. I can get a higher quality of it if/when it comes out on BD! I sure hope it happens! I would love to see the series and/or movie in HD!

That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but the entire listing has been very tentative. What we do know is that they've been looking at doing a release of it at least, but the actual date and details will have to wait.

That site isn't close to being accurate. They still list GATTACA and all the releases from last year that were pulled.
