I've been tossing around the idea in my head to sell off my Pioneer Elite PRO 141FD. It's a 60" and I love it, but feel it is wasted on me, and could be used by someone who would much more appreciate it better. I am too poor to pony up the hundreds of dollars to get it professionally calibrated and unlock the sets full potential, so I would hate to see a set like this go to waste.
I am interested in Panasonic's 3D sets, and seeing as their 65" model has recently come down in price, I could easily afford that if I sell off my Elite, but not sure how much I could or should ask for the set. And I wouldn't sell my Elite unless I could get around 5 grand for it either, otherwise I would just keep it. It's 2 years old as of this October, and is used less than 4 hours a day on average. What do you all think? Should I sell it and buy a spiffy Panasonic 65" 3D set, or keep it and hope one day I can get it calibrated? Thanks! |

Well, I would have to see a side-by-side comparison of the two to notice any difference in them. And since Panasonic owns Pioneer's display technology, I figured these new Panny displays will just about equal the Elites no?

That is not the case. Panasonic does not plan to use the Pioneer patents, they are just keeping them from the competition.

Thanks for the input so far guys.
Doing more research the top-of-the-line Panny 3D set, the VT is still at $5000 CDN here, so it would definitely not be worth my while yet to sell off my Elite. Think I will wait another year at least, see where this 3D thing goes too ![]() |

![]() And if he does sell it, it won't be his anymore, so no he won't still have one of the best HDTV's ever made. Short answer though, yes, sell it, to me, for $1.00 |

Sell it to me. I'll triple his offer to $3! ![]() Seriously, though, you have one of the best sets ever made. You don't "need" to have it calibrated in order to fully enjoy it. Unless you really want 3D, I'd keep the Elite. |

Panasonic has never said these words (except for a rep at CES) but people with sources have said so. In fact, D-nice has said that Panasonic is too proud to use Pioneer's tech. Search AVS and HDJ.

BTW, Pioneer Kuro, as many have said, does not need to be Calibrated for full enjoyment. The only problem is Pioneer has a BAD habit of cranking their out of the box DNR setting to "Wax Museum" so just make sure that is turned off and adjust the settings to your liking. No need to buy anything else to eat when you can have a Filet Mignon every night... |

Apparently Panasonic are catching up:
"Images are pin-sharp, colours are wonderfully vivid yet natural and convincing and, of course, contrast is as rich as we’ve come to expect from a top-spec plasma set. In fact, we’d bet the VT30’s black levels beat Pioneer’s much-acclaimed (but long defunct) Kuro sets, which is high praise indeed." http://www.whathifi.com/review/panasonic-tx-p65vt30 It's been quite some time since Pioneer stopped working on displays and it's not crazy to assume that their technology may have been surpassed already… Question is: has anyone actually compared them? |

I would never give up a 141 for a 65" VT 3D or any display. People who bring this up really don't have the kind of interest in PQ the Kuro produces. They bought it cause they can and it is the best. Sell it, keep it, give it away, if you want the VT get it. If you can afford a 141 you can afford a VT too.
