Default Incompatible region number

I have a new sony dvd bdp-s301 blu-ray player. The first DVD I played that was blu-ray was The Illusionist. It played just fine. Since then I relocated my DVD player and have played a few non-blu-ray DVDs just fine. I recently put in my second blu-ray DVD 'crash' and I received an error that said 'incompatible region number'.

I have seen this error on my laptop before when I was in Madrid, Spain and I used a DVD from a store I bought there. However, I was able to change the format in my pc to read the other region. I don't see a way to change this in the DVD player in any setup window. I can't imagine the blockbuster video store having the wrong format. Any ideas?

I assume you do not have another Blu-ray to try, like "The Illusionist". If you do then try it just to make sure something did not change, although I do not believe a player can change its region preference. It is more likely the disc is a different region or there is some kind of read error with the player which is why if you can, test another Blu-ray you know is the correct region.

Although it is unlikely it is not impossible that Blockbuster has a different region disc. If for some reason an individual bought a different region's version of "crash" off of ebay having been misinformed, they might have then rented it from Blockbuster and switched the disc.

Oh, and Welcome to the forums!

I highly doubt that a non-US BD would end up for rental at Blockbuster with the fact that all international BD's cost much more.
