United Kingdom BBC's Frozen Planet Blu-ray - TBA

There was an advertisement in my Human Planet Blu-ray that touted BBC's Frozen Planet as an upcoming release

Basically it's the sequel to Planet Earth and Life and from the previews, it looks pretty damn spectacular!

Release notification is available on Amazon UK.

Sounds awesome. I wonder if it's gonna be Sir David's last major series. I hope not, he's a natural world legend. I'll definitely pick this up.

Apparently it will be Sir David's last landmark series. He is irreplaceable, and the BBC Natural World unit will certainly not be the same after he's gone.

Attenborough was recently on NPR "promoting" his most recent project, Flying Monsters 3D.

At the end of the show, the host asked him what his next project would be.

Quote:
What's on your plate next?

Sir DAVID: Well, it's going back to some of the places I was in half-a-century ago and seeing how they've changed and how our understanding of them has changed. And the first one is going to be in Borneo.

FLATOW: Taking your film crew with you? Are you taking your film crew, or is this...

Sir DAVID: Oh sure.

(SOUNDBITE OF LAUGHTER)

FLATOW: Do you ever talk about retiring at all?

Sir DAVID: I would rather - if I can do something, I would rather do something than nothing.

Well, that's good to know, but you've still got to wonder. I didn't watch Flying Monsters, it was on Sky. In that interview, I think Sir David is talking about this Frozen Planet series. If he can keep going, all the better then. Can't wait till this releases.

Unless I'm misreading something, I don't think Monsters will be aired until Christmas day. Sky's already got another in the pipeline, Penguin Island 3D.

Quote:
Commenting on Penguin Island 3D, Sir David Attenborough said: "South Georgia is one of the most extraordinary and least appreciated places for wildlife in the world. King penguins are particularly interesting because they are so big that the chicks can’t grow to adult dimensions and strength to go to sea within a year. The landscape and wildlife of South Georgia is very dramatic, and I think it will look absolutely mind-blowing in 3D".

I was probably misreading. I don't have Sky anyway. Will he do any more major BBC docs, though?

I am too lazy to look it up, but there's an interview where Attenborough affirms his commitment to BBC and explains that his relationship with Sky is due to their superior 3D capabilities.

I'm looking forward to seeing this on TV before getting it on Blu. A lot of websites say late 2011, but that doesn't help.

I think I saw something that said Oct 26th 2011. I have to wait until Spring 2012 and Discovery may decide to air it with some celebrity doing the VO from Attenborough's script.

Ocotber 26 isn't a bad date, not too long then for us. And IMO it is better with Sir David as the original narrator.

Blind Buy, obviously, but I have pre-ordered :-)

I find it very hard to believe that this will be anything other than outstanding.
