Hello everyone!!
![]() I am new to the forum and have yet to buy a Blu-Ray player. I was wondering if any of you wonderful people have any advice? Dose Blu-Ray play any region DVD ? What is the best player? What is the difference between version 2 vs version 1.0 and 1.1? Thanks in advance!! |

First, welcome to the forums
Second, learn the search tool. use the search tool. love the search tool. Third, Blu-ray players are not regions free for either DVDs or BDs. If you want a region free DVD player, you will need to buy a seperate region free DVD player until someone releases a region free Blu-ray player. Blu-ray discs are restricted to 3 regions, A, B, and C. ![]() Fourth, profile 1.0 plays movies and menus and games. profile 1.1 plays picture in picture (PiP, aka Bonus View) as well, profile 2.0 adds internet access (BD Live). The PS3 is the best player now. It supports 1.1, and will support 2.0 later this year. |

ようこそ! First of all, welcome to the Blu-ray forums.
To answer your questions: 1) No, Blu-ray players have DVD playback but only for the region that they were meant for. So if you buy a Blu-ray player you will only be able to play DVD Region 1 discs. 2) You will find that plenty of our members feel like the PlayStation 3 is currently the best and most value-added player. It had downloadable firmware updates and is future-proof for Profile 2.0 compliancy. 3) The differences between Profile 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 are the following - Profile 1.0: Basic playback features. - Profile 1.1 (Bonus View): Better audio codec support and has bonus view, a feature that allows superimposed windows to appear over the playing video. It is a Picture-in-Picture feature. Basically, the neat thing about this is that commentaries from directors/actors in these windows are not burned into the actual film so you don't waste space by having x2 copies of the film on the disc (one with and one without the PiP) - Profile 2.0 (BD-Live): Better audio codec support and is required to have hard drive space and an ethernet port. This allows downloadable content to be used with movies that have that feature. Ideas thrown out so far on how to use this is to share favourite scenes with friends, play trivia against other players, blog, download extra content, etceteras. I hope you find this information useful. If there is anything incorrect I hope that other members will correct me. Good luck with your future purchase. ^^b |
