cod 4: resolution

i was playing call of duty 4 and i turned the tv off to eat then when i turned it back on my tv said it was broadcasting in 720p but on the back of the game it says it can do 1080p. i have a sony xbr 4 and have some really nice hdmi cables. when i turn on the ps3 it says its doing 1080p so why doesn't it for cod4. i really want to see it in 1080p.

I have a new 1080p tv running at 120htz and COD4 does not seem to be in 1080p. It looks great but I think it is running in 1080i or 720p. I have tried different settings but to no avail.

you need to disable the 720p from your ps3 menu

then it should run at 1080p

how do you disable 720p and what will happen to games that's top resolution is 720p (rfom) because i play cod4 and rfom a lot and i wouldn't want to change the settings every time i swich games

Go into display settings and i forget exactly but you can check mark boxes on 480P, 720P,1080I and 1080P. Just make sure that 720P is not checked. This is by the way the work around for the COD4 problem.

can i still play games like rfom that can only do 720p or will i have to go back and check 720p that sounds like kind of a hassle

I doubt you'll notice any improvement with the PS3 upscaling instead of your tv.

you have to switch back and forth unfortunately. Otherwise 720p games will be in 480p.

i noticed that i went to play rfom and i saw that it was only 480p. i was shocked by how much better hd makes a game. plus playing cod4 at 1080p was amazing thanks for clearing this up.

no the ps3 will convert the all games to 1080p cod 4 is not 1080p its only 720p so your just upconvert it

are you sure because cod 4 says on the back that it does 1080p and when i turn my tv on and off it says its in 1080p when i turn of 720p and 1080i. the picture definatly looks better.

Is this problem fixable in a firmware update? If not hopefully EA starts making their games 1080p. Because it seems like to much work to manually select the resolution for each game.

guys these games are not 1080p its only being upscaled. there is nothing wrong with the game. dont expect many full hd games n the future

PS3 games still cannot be upscaled yet...my COD4 plays on my 360 at 1080p Upscaled only though because no games run at full 1080p. But i am pretty sure that the ps3 still cannot upscale so there isn't a way to play COD4 on the ps3 with 1080p

thats because the ps3 is sending out a 1080p signal. however its an upconverted signal not native. ps3 upscales games 4 the record.
