So this guy comes in to my work tonight asking me which format i think is better i of course say blu ray and than he starts goin off on me like i just killed his family or some shit. Than he tells me how he is a beta tester for HD and tells me that all of our tvs look like shit and he told me we should hook up our tv to hd and do the latest firmwear (im not sure what it is im guessing it some kind of update) and hd will look beter. i was just wondering A. would the A35 look beter than blu with that update (doubt it) and B. he was telling me something about HD is coming out with a player made by the chinese that is going to blow blu out of the water ( next year) any info would be helpful im new at this and im trying to learn

You know what.. Toshiba just dropped the A3 to 149$MSRP... lower than the actual VENTURER (chinese) one... so here's goes you're cheap chinese in the dump. The A35 is now like 299$ and lower. Toshiba has been clearing those unit for you know the reason, most likely a hardware dump |

He is an idiot, firmware does not affect how the Toshiba's look.
The chinese players are a non issue as they cost the same as the normal Toshibas. That was their big hope for the holiday season and they were wrong. One thing he was right in, he is a beta tester for high definition material though as are all hd-dvd buyers lol. |

yes it's like a ps3 update. Firmware updates are basically updates to the programs that control the hardware in a machine. Kind of like updating the drivers for your video card in your computer. It may help the card to be compatible with newer games, but it doesn't really make them look better (although games aren't really a good example).
Updating the firmware basically just allows the machines to be compatible with newer movies since newer movies may use different software to run their menus and such. The only time it may help to make something look better is if a machine were released with some sort of bug in it's firmware which prevented it from displaying 1080p or something. That should be right on the money from my understanding of these things, but I welcome any corrections/additions. |

Poor poor HD-dvd'ers, they just can't accept the fact they've adopted the 2008 betamax, logic doe's not work with these people.
