It's a sequel to a Horror movie, and while it does lean closer to Action, because it's in the same vein of the first film, I also label it Horror. Just me though. I also label Underworld and Blade Horror, but they're also closer to Action.

1.)George A. Romero's Dawn of The Dead - Not only is it the best horror sequel of all time, but I'd also rank it inthe top ten sequels of all time, period.
2.)Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - Really took it to the next level. Few horror-comedies can come close to its greatness. 3.)The Devil's Rejects - Few modern horror films have been successful at trying to recapture the outlaw, "fu¢k the MPAA" asthetic of 70's horror films. This did so in spades. 4.)The Texas Chainsaw Massacre pt. 2 - How do you top arguably one of the most jarring, nerve-wrecking, and shocking film experiences of all time? The short answer is "you don't. Instead, you make a (very) black comedy, which actually delivers all the gore audiences thought they saw in the first one, and two of my favorite performances in horror film history (in the group of horror nerds I hung with, no two character's dialogue was quoted more than Chop-Top, as played by Bill Moseley, and Lt. "Lefty" Hardesty-Enright, as played by Dennis Hopper). 4.)A Nightmare on Elm Street pt. 3: Dream Warriors - This film will always have a warm place in my heart because this is the first horror movie I ever saw in the theatre. Really set itself apart from the other slasher franchises by adding a fantasy element to the body count. Who else here had a crush on Patricia Arquette after this movie? 5.)Hellbound: Hellraiser II - It pulled off what most sequels attempt, but fail to do. It gives fans of the original what made them like it in the first place, but not just make a carbon copy of the original. It also brings me back to a time when a HV release was marketed as "Unrated", and it actually ment something. 6.)Halloween 4: The Curse of Michael Myers - It jumped off from a point that shoulda spelled disaster (namely, how do you bring back not one, but two characters who appear to be pretty clearly dead at the end of pt II, and not make it completely stupid), but manages to exceed my (admitedly low) epectations. 7.)Day of The Dead - Yeah, I'm one of those guys. I'm one of those people that champion Day of The Dead. I love how angry, and down right nasty the tone of this movie is. For my money, it features the best practical effects in horror film history. 8.)Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed - By all rights, this movie should have beeh awful, but they actually managed to make a sequel that is worthy of the original. I love the setting, and the endin was from way outta left field. 9.)Friday The 13th pt. 6: Jason Lives - So zombie Jason is born, and now we have a reasonable explanation for why Jason won't die. This was the first one that really tried to inject humor into the proceedings. 10.)Hannibal - Who knew that Ridley Scott wanted to make a splatter film. In Italy, no less. |
