It actually says it at the very beginning of the movie. Since the movie is a tape that the government has, it says right on the opening screen that the Department of Defense codenamed the attack "Cloverfield."

saw cloverfield enjoyed it shaky cam tiresome by the end. I will say I think bluray is clearer than the theatre. Maybe they needed to focus the camera or something but come on 40 bucks to take my son and we have better pq at home. If theatres are going to keep the crowds they need to upgrade soon.

in an interview with JJ Abram's about the film. he said he to do it this way, for 2 reasons. The first to insure that there won't be a sequel for the film, and secondly he wanted the camera to be the person. The camera was confused, couldn't capture exactly what was going on. and told the story as the first person. yeah it was very shaky, yet the movie was great it is definitely worth the release on BD. So paramount please wake up, and forget HDDVD.

I made sure to sit far enough back, and even though at times it gets a little irritating, it's a small price to pay for the scary realistic feeling it gives you.

I like to think the reason the government called it codename Cloverfield is because when you look at NewYork from a high point you can compare it to a field of clovers and the monster is the four leaveclover you trying to take out of the field for good luck.

I agree with what you say about Transformers. It was a good blockbuster, but extremely over hyped.
I still want to see Cloverfield though.

Thumbs up Wake up and smell the roses Paramount. . .

Great movie! I was skeptical at first. . . but come to like the camera angles (though I did get sick, for a short while nonetheless, and held my breath the entire time!). . .

I would definitely pick this up on Blu! There you go Paramount, there's your incentive to switch exclusivity! I and half this forum will buy. . .

Why would you say that? Do you know for a FACT that it will be on blu? Last I heard it was a Paramount/HD-DVD film. Also, last I heard, Universal is still HD-DVD only.

It will come out on blu this year, Universal stockholders will not allow the insanity that's going on to continue.

Also, stockholders are generally morons with too much money. They really don't give a rip about this sort of thing.

There are 3 different reasons.

1. The military operation to stop the monster was called Cloverfield
2. The monster left footprints that looked like clovers and New York (what's left of it) would look like a field of clovers from above.
3. Cloverfield was a nickname for a street near J.J. Abrams office

Seriously, anyone who has ever seen this movie needs to see this: http://imdb.com/title/tt1060277/faq (So many questions answered here) There are obviously spoilers in the link.

I never new about the real life "Bloop" incident: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop (Check out the cool sound clip)

Although contrary to what someone else posted, there is talk of a sequel, even among the creators. I heard it would be the same event from a different point of view.

I didn't mind the hand-held camera style, it's something different and really lets you experience the events like you are really there.

This movie is an instant buy for me on Blu. Come on Paramount, you know you want to.

As you can tell, yes I really liked this movie.
