Default A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

according to thedigitalbits this will be a dvd only release!!
so will hostel III!
as these are sony titles, the mother of bluray, i have just written
an email to their customer service, asking if they are serious with
their release policy!
its 2011, everyone has gone blu and sony, the number one blu studio
decides to release two new titles on dvd only.
they pulled the same crap with the virginity hit and quarantine 2!
makes me shake my head at what morons run their home
entertainment department!!

Yeah, uh, this Orgy movie made a whopping gross of only $200,227. I can totally see why it's a DVD only release.

And Hostel III wasn't apparently good enough to even get a theatrical release. Again, understandable for DVD only. If sales are good, then they will probably consider blu.

Yeah, I was a bit worried about this. I noticed A Good Old Fashioned Orgy had a release date on DVDAF, but it was DVD only.

I think it got a very limited theatrical release, mostly because of its title. It's not as raunchy as the title implies (supposedly), and it's got some decent stars in it. No BD seems like a bad idea, and I'm disappointed.

Why? It's not cost effective to release it on blu. I'd rather they use a replicator to release a classic catalog title instead, one that they KNOW will sell.

Oh, but it was cost effective to release Game of Death, The Hit List, and Please Give?

This sucks! I really enjoyed the film. I blame its horrible marketing and lack of theatrical releases for its failure. If this was released on 2500 screens I bet it would have made decent money.

I actually caught it twice during its brief run in the MN area. Like a poster above said, its not as raunchy as the title suggests. It's actually a solid comedy with some real elements dropped in.

Was looking forward to the Blu release

Saw this in the theater last month, gave out some good laughs, not the worlds best comedy but still pretty decent for a rewatch at home.
Will forte & Lucy as a married couple is amazing

i'm sorry, but since when is the box office result any indication of a bluray release!? especially sony even releases every dtv movie on bluray, like sniper 3, hit list, etc. etc..
a good old fashioned orgy has jason sudeikis, leslie bibb, lake bell and will
forte in it.
the only reason why this movie performed so badly is because the prude american audience was scared away because the title has orgy in it!
while movies released in europe are very open about showing sex, violence
is heavily censored, whereas in the states 500 heads can be chopped
off, but god forbid a nipple shows anywhere
i mean how many people didn't go see kick-ass because it had the word ass in it!
personally i can't judge the movie, as i haven't seen it, but the trailer looked
very funny.
in addition i'm not only furious about not being able to see this movie in hd,
but for the principle! c'mon its sony!! the number one bluray company
and they are going back to dvd again!!??
thats just a slap in their customers' faces!

I'm sorry, but it must mean something, or it would be coming out, right? Plus, the only name on that list I know is Leslie Bibb, so it's not like it has some cast of the top stars in Hollywood.

If people were supposedly scared away by the title, then it was up to the producers & distributors to CHANGE the title so the film could become a $100 million smash. But they didn't. I'm sorry it's not coming out on blu-ray, but as a business decision (and Hollywood IS a business of numbers), I can totally understand why they aren't putting extra money into releasing it on blu right now. Apparently, their projected sales wouldn't equal the cost of mass producing blu-rays, and my guess is they didn't want to be stuck with a warehouse full of discs after the 50 or so people who actually saw it in theaters bought it.

And I don't know how many people didn't go see Kick Ass due to the title, but it still made $48 mil domestic and $96 mil worldwide, so that blu ray release is certainly warranted. That's a little more than $200K and is a guaranteed seller. Orgy is not.

UK is getting a Blu. Any chance of it being region free or US compatible?

Jason Sudeikis was one of the headliners in both Hall Pass and Horrible Bosses. Will Forte is from MacGruber.

I have to agree with the OP, here. Sony has been odd with their blu-ray choices, as of late. They put out direct-to-video garbage, but have passed on some decent theatrically released films. Last year, they even specifically acquired the rights to release Bright Star on blu-ray in the U.S. and then never put together a disc. Very odd.

It's not up for preorder anymore, so....

But chances are if it is released, it will be locked anyway. The small studios frequently lock.
