I would have to go with videos on this one. As cool as some concerts can be, imo it doesn't get any better than the best video hits, remastered for the highest video and audio quality. Unfortunately most music releases are concerts, which is why I only have a few music DVDs in my collection (which I would gladly upgrade to Blu ray, if available).
What's your preference? |

I like them both. I'd buy many more music releases if the artists could release music video collections, especially bands/performers from the 1980's. In fact, why these remnants of record companies don't band together and start releasing volumes of various artists in their stable is beyond me, unless it's contractual. But if it's a contractual issue, why doesn't the person/persons who do own the rights release them? Maybe a possibility of poor sales figures on some sets scare them....I dunno.

I love both...in theory I guess. There aren't any bands I love with Blu-ray video collections, which sucks. Most of the bands I love are 90's or 80's so I don't know how their videos were shot. I'd love to see the Smashing Pumpkins videos as HD as possible.

I don't have Lugosi in my name but...
I prefer concerts. Sure, I grew up in the heyday of MTV, but a lot of that stuff doesn't have the same appeal to me it used to. I'm referring to 80s material here, but I should think getting HD versions of videos that were originally edited on SD video would be problematic. |

I love live music and many of my favourite bands are far better in concert than they are in the studio owed partly to excessive dynamic range compression.
However my #1 choice would be...studio albums remastered from analog tapes into high resolution 5.1 and stereo, 24/192 where possible, otherwise 24/96. I would love to see Zeppelin's catalogue for example reissued in deluxe Blu-ray audio discs. |

I totally skipped the video era, it never appealed to me, but I love to watch a good concert on blu, don't have many because one of my friends has lots so we share. A concert like Dave Matthews and Tim Renoylds is one major enjoyable way to spend the evening, almost as good as if you were there. It's my go to concert for friends. It's all about being live for me.

I should bring it on Saturday, the LFE gets a real nice workout thanks to Mr. Tony Levin. Some of the songs are new interpretations as well, like Washing of the Water. |

I prefer live shows to conceptual videos. That said I'm really enjoying the Rush: Moving Pictures BR Audio Disk (which also contains some videos). I look forward to more BR Audio in the future. Farewell to Kings with Zanadu in 5.1 DTS-MA would be sweet. This is going to be fun as the format continues to grow.

Hearing one of your fav bands from a "LIVE" Show or Tour, with multiple HD Cameras, pristine Audio, blows Video away (IMO) ![]() I'm surprised we haven't had more ZEPPELIN either in the form of "LIVE" Shows (O2 Arena, anyone?!), or even with Blu-ray Audio discs. ![]() Quote:

I would have to say concert on bluray without a doubt. I have about at least 5 or so and 3 more coming this year. Dream Theater is being shipped out, Rush in Nov, and Styx in Dec. Once I get my HT gear (AV receiver with HDMI 5.1 or 7.1 DTS-HD MA) I will be all set.

I haven't seen a music video in years. Can't remember when MTV last showed music videos?
I'd have to say, I like concerts more than videos. The feeling of being there. We need Pink Floyd: Pulse on BD, has a little from both worlds. |
