Default Issues with my subwoofer

Well, i think my subwoofer is not the real problem, I just upgrade my Sony STR DH500 to a Pioneer VSX-33

This happens only when i go to DVD mode

I test my DVD player, sound come out from all of my speakers but my subwoofer is mute wich usually always turn on automatically because is in AUTO function, i try turn on subwoofer manually, when i do lights turn GREEN but subwoofer still dead no sound come out from it
When i change to blu-ray mode subwoofer turn on as normally do AUTOMATICALLY and works as always do , but when i try DVD mode again subwoofer is dead...whats happening?, please help

A mod is should move this to the receiver thread, this is not a subwoofer problem.

done.

Noel, check your AVR settings. some AVR's have the option for you to keep the bass management designated at 0 (zero), some allow you to increase the signal +10db. check your DVD settings, as well as your Blu-ray settings.

possible two things,
1. your signal from the dvd player isnt 'reaching' your subwoofer levels to automatically turn on
2. its running hot (remember the whole +10db i mentioned? yup.).

Check your manual. sorry, im at work. too lazy to look it up for you.

hmm. back to basics.

list down the connections you have with the blu-ray player and the dvd player.

im assuming
blu-ray player ->hdmi->AVR
dvd player ->hdmi ->AVR

or is the dvd player connected via optical or coax?

nonetheless, ive been looking into your manual, very impressive AVR!

1. check if the settings would be the same for the dvd player and the blu-ray player. speaker settings, crossover settings etc. most AVRs nowadays allow customizing to EACH input, so id love to check that first.

2. SUB level indicated in your AVR settings, double check if they're the same on DVD and blu-ray.

3. page 8 shows LFE settings, i know i asked already. kindly double check for me please.

4. page 80 allows you to download the information from your AVR for analysis (this is VERY impressive), can you kindly see if you can post that here?

heres your manual... VSX-33

i re-read this again,

1. does your subwoofer do ANYTHING when you use your DVD player? even increasing the volume or what not, what does your subwoofer do?

2. try to leave the subwoofer on ON position, instead of AUTO function. what does it do at this point on DVD settings?

Did you even bother to read my previous postings?

What do you mean in your first post by "switching to DVD mode and Blu-ray mode"? Do you have a blu ray player and a DVD player connected to the AVR?

Please list all the components by brand and model number connected to the AVR and how connected(RCA cables, component, HDMI).

Try switching the HDMI input that the DVD player is connected to and see if that helps. Also try a different HDMI cable. Also, according to your manual(thanks for the link jomari), when using the DVD, see if the AVR displays the LFE symbol(Section 2 on the front panel display).

You may want to call Pioneer customer service to see if they can help.

This may sound like astupid question. Have you played the same disc in the PS3 and gotten the same results(no sub response)?

2. well, for now keep the subwoofer on ON and not via AUTO.

brown mentioned to switch the cable,
1.from the dvd player to the blu-ray player and see if you have problems with it.
2.same with the blu-ray player, switched from one to the other.
3. since you've mentioned that you have a new cable, try to do the said test.

have you tried to check the other settings? are they identical in nature? lastly, try to move the dvd player to another hdmi port on the AVR. lets say HDMI 3 at this point.

the reason i asked if you've read my previous replies is so we can find some sort of reaction from you. jumping on another thread asking the same questions will not get the reaction you want. have you tried to read the manual a bit more? we try to assist people to the best that we can, but only mirror what information is given to us. the more information, the better we can analyze things. we dont gift wrap either.

According to your DVD player's manual it looks like HDMI output defaults to 2ch PCM. Try setting that to auto and see if starts passing DD 5.1 and DTS.
