Default Sony Acquires Rights to Assassin's Creed

Quote:
I am a big fan of Assassin's Creed games. First one was not the best one out there, but it definitely had a lot of potential. And Ubisoft thought so too. They made a second game which was just amazing. Then third one came out, also great, and now a fourth game in the franchise will be released next month. It's also worth mentioning that not only were the games a critical success but also financial. With that, Ubisoft Motion Pictures has been trying to find a studio for a film adaptation, and according to Variety, Sony Pictures is the one that acquired rights:

"Studio is in final negotiations to adapt and distribute the bigscreen version of the historical actioner, landing the film rights in a bidding war after Ubisoft started shopping the property around Hollywood over the last several months. Studios, including Universal, also were vying for the project."

This makes Assassin's Creed the third game Sony is working on, with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and inFAMOUS in development. Last three games in Assassin's Creed series have been revolving around Desmond Miles, a descendant of both Altaïr and Ezio Auditore da Firenze. After he is put in a machine called "Animus" he experiences the memories of Ezio and Altaïr.

The latest game in the franchise, Assassin's Creed: Revelations will be released on November 15.
Awesome I loved the second game but the question is, Diesel are you gonna let me have this thread or merge it with something else like you normally do with all my threads?

Nice! I love the games. Ezio, Altaiir, Desmond. I would like to see at least two of them in the film, but we'll see how it goes. And please get Kristen Bell to reprise her role.

As long as Sony keeps their hands off the creative process (which Ubisoft wants to keep the creative rights), everything should be fine.

They better use the guy who's likeness is used for Altair/Desmond/Ezio and let him play :

His name is Francisco Randez and he's a Canadian model.

I'd prefer an actor. Having the exact same face is nowhere near as important as having the ability to pull the role off without it coming off as goofy. But Jake Gyllenhaal has some talent, and he still didn't add much to PoP, so I don't know.

Another video game adaptation. We all know how this will end up. Only played the first game, but it was good.

No, we don't know where this will end up. The game required so much historical research, etc, that it would be a slap in the face to those who worked their asses off if the film didn't have the same effort put forth. This could be one of the best of the subgenre. Fingers crossed. Ubisoft supposedly being involved adds a lot to my confidence in this...

That's why Ubisoft is going to retain creative control. That's the only way this film gets made. Sony is really only going to finance the film and handling distribution/marketing.

The reason Ubisoft came out with that stance is because of what happened with PoP. I hope Ubi sticks to their guns on their stance.

I don't see why they wouldn't hire her for the role. She did the likeness and voice acting for Lucy, she's an established actress in hollywood, and she's not bad to look at

Not nearly as bad as McLovin in that stupid vest, right? "You look like Aladdin."

I'll check those out. The only flaw with the first game was being extremely buggy on the pc from what I remember.

Wow, this could be very interesting. Would love Ridley Scott to direct this, especially for the ''going-back-in-time'' parts, together with the Kingdom of Heaven feel to it, this could be great!

As for the acting, i'd rather have someone who can act, than someone who looks liek the game character......

Great property that should translate well into a film, can't wait. I loved the spooky historical references and scenarios Assassin's Creed puts in their games. Unless you lived through it, how much of history do you know for a fact is 100% true anyway?
