Default To The Makers Of Blu-Ray

I went to blockbuster today to check out what Blu-Ray discs they had and it was maybe about just 20 not much in my opinion and they were of already released months ago on regular DVD, the HD DVD section next to it there was over 100 and they had new release HD-DVD's of new releases you would see as if you went to your local video store to rent regular DVD's, i would like to know why you havent got into gear on making sure your products are coming out at the same time as the others like for instance say when Man Of the Year comes out make sure there is a blu-ray dvd of it also to rent, if you concentrate on making sure that the rental companys have it when the regular dvd of a movie is released you will succeed and HD-DVD will fail otherwise it will be the other way around and i will have to sell my Blu-Ray Player to some unlucky sap that wants a Betamax player

Say Aloha Seattle! Well there's 184 Blu=ray titles in the US alone so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Last time i travelled I even found BDs selling in airport stands!

Studios are getting better about same day releases. Look for The Departed on Tuesday, The Prestige next week and Casino Royale in March. New technology takes time to get a grasp on and now that studios are getting the hang of the new audio/video codecs Blu-ray and HD-DVD use, releases for these formats will happen along side the regular DVD release.

Also, you should be happy you can rent Hi Def titles at your Blockbuster because anyone around here (Fargo, ND) tells me "they're coming soon". They've been "coming soon" for the past three months.

My local blockbuster had about 20 Bluray titles and 15 HD titles.

Maybe the HD camp is pushing harder in Seattle becuase they think the people up there are dumb enough to buy them?

None of my Blockbusters carry either formats. I am a buyer anyhow.

Not to sound *****y but please at least write with a period (.) At least we can understand your post better.

Secondly, since you didn't find much BD discs at your Blockbuster and you want more titles, you have to be proactive about it. Tell the manager that you'd like more titles on BD and that you'd be renting regularly if they had BD in stock. Pledge to rent new releases too.

So that is the plan. Follow through on that plan and you can help your chosen format to win the battle.

I'm sorry I didn’t know people wanted me to type in essay format; however, I will try to do better on my next posting; furthermore, I did tell the store manager there at that store that they need to get more than just a handful. The store manager told me "HD-DVD is winning the format war in the Blockbuster's in Washington State". Unfortunately unless Blu-Ray makes the first attempt at the stores it will be too late.

you can always choose to rent from someone more BR friendly. while i don't rent, i did go to my local blockbuster not long ago and they didn't even have any idea about any new formats (in a way, i really wasn't surprised). blockbuster, in my past experiences, has been really hit and miss. you can always try netflix as they have been BR friendly to my knowledge.

In my area, only one or two Bluckbuster stores per county are testing the hi-def waters. And even in these stores, asking about blu-ray results in wide eyed stares that remind me of cows chewing cud. I don't think blockbuster is a good indication of the "war" between HD-DVD and blu-ray. For one thing, early adopters tend to have collector mentality. They buy what they want, and wouldn't rent what they don't want, for the most part. Also, until hundreds of titles are available, it's silly for a customer supporting either format to go to a brick-and-mortar expecting to browse.

No one near me rents out BD's or HD-dvd's, except my computer via blockbuster.com.

At my local Blockbuster they have finally starting getting some newer realses in (Open Season/Gridiron Gang) and the BD section is just as big as the HD-DVD section they are right next to each.

Seems there is great variability. It may be your Blockbuster has a HD DVD fanboy manager. My local BB has nothing (In fact I was told only five in all of Canada have HD discs at this point. Typically stupid and slow).

Once the rental companies start to realize how durable Blu-ray discs are, you can bet the bean counters will start pushing for BD adoption.

I think it's a matter of economics too. If you owned a video rental store and no one was asking for HD or BD discs, how likely is it that you would order in expensive discs in the hope someone would rent them? Plus they have to rent them more times to just break even on them before they sell them off used. I would suggest everyone either e-mailing Blockbuster head office about the lack of discs in your specific area. If they get enough requests, they'll bring them in, in more locations I'd expect.

Many blockbusters are franchises and do not have to do much of what corporate says. My local one is never participating in the various blockbuster promotions and such.

Jeez, that sucks, Damon. Up here in Canada, i remember hearing Blockbuster employees saying they's be better off if the store was franchised so maybe it's different between here and the U.S. Weird.
