Beginners Blu-ray Review

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Beginners on Blu-ray this November. Director Mike Mills' semi-autobiographical dramedy stars Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) as Oliver, a graphic designer struggling with memories of his deceased father (Christopher Plummer, The Last Station), who came out of the closet at age seventy-five after forty-five years of heterosexual marriage. To his surprise, Oliver takes great inspiration from his father's new lifestyle, particularly regarding his budding relationship with a beautiful free-spirit (Mélanie Laurent, Inglourious Basterds)

Universal's Blu-ray presents the film mastered for 1080p in its original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Supplementary materials have not yet been announced.

Beginners is expected to street on November 15th.

I never got a chance to see this in theaters so I'm excited for this release.

Just saw an ad in Best Buy that this will be released on the 1st of November, not the 15th. Confirmed it with a sales associate. The sooner, the better, yeah?

saw this in the theater, didn't care much for it. maybe because i had really high hopes for it...

I wonder why Best Buy is getting it two weeks early?

I'm curious myself, but the Best Buy sales rep that I talked with didn't seem to know anything about it's original street date.

I just bought a copy at Best Buy.

$19.99 as advertised.

I will say this: none of the copies at my local BB had slipcovers. The film's page on Blu-ray.com says it's supposed to come with one in its original pressing.

Just picked up the UK Universal release as I assumed it would be identical to US release...but it's a puny BD25 disc...low bitrate....are we 100% sure the US release is a BD50..???

I personally loved this film when I saw it in theaters, in my top 5 for the year.
