Default Hate Combo Packs

If I still wanted to buy dvd's I would not have switched years ago to blu-ray. I am one who when Universal was with HD-DVD and no one knew for sure who would win, I stuck with blu-ray. But now with the combo packs I feel like the decision was for not. I don't want Dvd's, I don't own a dvd player! I don't buy combo packs for $30 because I will never use that DVD! I waited until Avitar came out only as a blu-ray. Am I the only one who sees this as frustrating??

I love them and I hate them. I love them because it's nice to have a the dvd copy of the film. and I have three reasons why I hate them.

1: They overprice the movies with dvd combo.
2: I hate friends asking me for the copy. I know you can call me a dick but here is the third reason why.
3: Trading: It's nice to have the full set so you can get a better deal.

Honestly, I don't think enough about combo packs for them to bother me, until I come on this site and see person after person complain about them. I actually like the Digital Copy combo packs, but I don't really use DVDs either. If we weren't forced to get them, that'd be great. I still doubt the prices would be much lower. Lower, period? Perhaps. But not by much. What actually pisses me off is when there are multiple sets, one with one disc and almost no extras, and another multi-disc set with all of the good extras. That pisses me off way more than a DVD being included. It's also amusing that studios seem to have gotten hip to the whole slipcover craze, so now they specifically choose the more expensive editions to include the slipcovers with. I get a laugh out of that obvious marketing scheme, but again, it doesn't bother me nearly as much as the multi-disc/special features situation does. How much more do the BD/DVD/DC combo packs cost to produce?

Personally, I like combo packs and I like having the DVD option. I have family members who don't own Blu-ray players yet, so if there is a movie I have that they want to see, the DVD comes in handy. This is especially helpful when it comes to family films. I would rather have a DVD than a digital copy. I have no use for digital copies.

No one in their right mind would spend 30 bucks on a combo pack. I would buy new release DVDs several yrs ago for 17 to 20. Now for the same amount I get blu ray and dvd. I don't see the issue. Shop around and sell the DVDs u don't want.

I find the DVDs useful. I use them in the portable dvd player in the car for my baby as well as a disc they can kick around and not have to worry about it really since the blu ray is the one i want to keep damage free.

I like them a lot. To get two formats in one package is added value.

I try my best to sell them on amazon and ebay. I carefully list the item as "Only dvd! No cover art or case!" but there's always that one self righteous ass hole that messages me telling me that I'm a scammer and a liar.

In short... I hate them because they just jack up the value of the blu rays themselves, cause unneeded stress, and adds a higher percentage for a heart attack down the road

I think some combos are pretty cool. My son uses the DVDs and I am building a collection for my IPad/Apple TV. I only buy combos that my son can watch or a digital copy I would love to have. Have you seen the prices on DC lately? A no-brainer for this dude.

I love Combo Packs. Especially the ones that come with slipcovers.

No, because packaging them together is incentive for people who HAVEN'T switched over yet to own both, and hopefully see the difference in quality. Why do you think they are doing it, for fun? You can always throw the DVD away, so I cant see that it should be bothering you. And I doubt they are $30, seeing as that most new releases are under $25 and many under $20, and contain both.

It's spelled Avatar, btw.

This.

Some people have kids, and have vehicles with dvd players to entertain the kids.

Some people actually trust their friends and will loan out the dvd copies and can still have the blu copies at home if they get the urge to watch the same movie thats loaned out.

Some people commute a lot, and like to have digital copies to keep themselves busy on busses/trains/etc.

I don't know how many times digital copies and my ipod have saved my sanity on long camping trips where there was unexpected rain.

I like them because I have friends/family who are still using DVD's. They are also good for trips, my laptop only plays DVD's.

Who cares? You get better packaging with it, sometimes better bonus features and a dvd copy to give away to someone. I give mine to my sister who is away at college. Makes her day, saves a poor college student money.

Did you ever think, maybe some people actually use the dvd and DC? Why should they only cater to you?

Some people have kids. Those dvds come in handy on car trips. Same thing with Digital Copies.

Then there are some people that have not switched over to blu ray yet. Combo packs are great for those people.

I don't love or hate them! I prefer all Blu-ray, but whenever I do get a Combo Pack, which seems to be the majority of my newer purchase's, the DVD truly benefits my family and friends! Which I'm fine with. ... I enjoy Slips, which seems to cost me extra cause studios aren't offering Slips on Blu-ray only titles!! ... And lately it seems like the studios are adding additional Bonus Features with Combo Packs! It seems like Movie fans and Blu-ray supporters have a higher premium to pay than most!

Pretty much this. However, I'm glad most companies aren't making digital copies on disc now.
