Default Why did you choose a PS3 as a Blu-ray player

This seems weird to be talking about this know since I have had my PS3 6 months now.

I don't know why I am openig this thead because no one at Toshiba nor any one who is a HD DVDder will read this.

Reason

#1. The excellent reviews the PS3 was getting and it was one of the few Blu Ray Players at the time to a HDMI 1.3 port

#2. At that time and actually even today the pricepoint is unbeatable.

#3 It also allows you to play PS3/PS2/PS1 Games

Neither one of those choices. You know the PS3 can be used to play games, right?

Blu-ray games. Movies were just a plus.

I chose it because it was roughly the same price as the least expensive dedicated BR decks when I purchased it and because it would be worth a heck of a lot more than a standalone on the 'bay had HD-DVD won the format war.

When I first bought my PS3 (Actually this is my second) it was for games but for awhile I wasnt too impressed with the selection and gameplay of each game so I turned to blu-ray movies and ever since then I've been more hooked on movies than games

At the time I bought mine, it was the cheapest BD player. And the additional benefit of being a wireless media server helped of course.

Games-shmames...I played my last game in 1988.

I got my first 60GB PS3 partially because I knew it was killing 2 birds with one stone (I play games sometimes). I'm pretty sure it wasn't until after I got it that I realized what a great player it was and that I would get hooked on some of its features (including how it made the HD-XA2 I used to have feel sluggish when switching between the 2 of them).

Actually the PS3 was the last blu-ray player I bought of the 3 that we own. That's not to say that it isn't a great machine but there are some great stand alone in the market as well

first and foremost.... it's my gaming machine (in fact, now, it is my only console - I've retired my PS2)

I got 2 PS3, one for BD player, one for gaming....
I bought Japanese PS3 for gaming, but decided to buy UK PS3, because it has good BD playback. I also use Japanese PS3 to play US import BD.

1. Games
2. Movies

I love having a machine that will do both amazingly well. It is the most versatile tech product I've ever used.

It's actually a good number cruncher with YDL as well. It's almost become my second computer in addition to a great gaming platform. I just need to figure out how to be able to expand it's physical RAM, I've found that to be one major limitation, but that's only because I'm using it for "non standard" uses.

I prefer the PS controller to the alternative.

Blu-Ray was honestly just a bonus. But since I lucked out on finding deals and exploits, I have a pretty decent BD collection and have used my PS3 for BD playback and DVD upscaling more then gaming until I picked up Warhawk/Uncharted/CoD4.
