Default UT 3 selling well on the PS3

Quote:
Last month, we found out that Unreal Tournament 3 (on PC, along with Crysis) was selling quite poorly in the early going. And by poorly, I mean it barely made it over the 30,000 units sold mark – whether that’s due to a bloated market, piracy or something else altogether, we can’t know for sure. Mark Rein takes offense to the claim that UT3 isn’t doing well, stating:

It is amazing how people can look at two weeks of sales (in our case) in one single territory in the busiest Xmas sales season the industry has ever seen and come to the conclusion these titles are doing “badly”. I don’t think either title is doing so badly … This isn’t the fastest selling UT title ever but it’s doing pretty well and we’re going to support it with some pretty cool things to help it keep selling over time.

I don’t think anyone could make a similar claim about UT3 on PlayStation 3, which – despite being released on December 11 with very little notice – sold 113,000 copies, which is just under the mark hit by Uncharted in November (117,000) and quite a lot more than Ratchet sold in October (74,500).

It’ll be interesting to see how Epic proceeds from here in regards to how they treat the PS3 version versus the PC version. If sales are clearly better on PS3, who’s to say that Epic wouldn’t suddenly pay more attention to the console versions?

I'm not shocked that it is doing so well on the PS3. It brings a lot of features that players can enjoy. I love the mods and custom maps myself.

Maybe the should have released the damn game in europe sometime near the US date but i guess it can't be helped when a company saw a chance to pull out the game in the US for the holiday season & since the UK has the crappy BBFC (British Board of Fudge Cake ) taking care of our game rating, they take ages, they didn't even like to release Bully here under that name but change the name to Canis Canem Edit & keep the game the same, PC britain suddenly forgets about the game, it gets a age rating & releases

I just hate this country man, so friggin opressive & to tope that off, we usually get rain & dark clouds & bad weather in general, we live in a cold world but it's very literal in the UK

lol.

the grass is always greener..right.

they get nudity in the commercials but violence throws the BBFC through loops. The USA is completely the opposite in this regard. There was a issue recenlty on fox news about mass effect. You would have thought that the game was a porno simulator.

I returned UT3 (for PS3) after about a week. Fun game in general, good vehicles but lacking long term playability. COD4 is much better.

If you were looking for long term playability from the base UT3 game, you've never understood the concept of Unreal in the first place.

The Unreal franchise has always been about modifications; small, large, and extreme. I'm working on one such in my spare time as it is. It takes a little time, but in another year, long after you've forgotten about Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4, there will be some really amazing permutations of Unreal Tournament III out there.

UT3 doesnt have enough depth to it to compete with COD4.

Have you played warfare or are you basing your opinions entirely on deathmatch?

really? i find it hard to believe that anybody would feel that way that actually played the game for awhile. everytime i sit down with it i am intrigued by how interesting and different it is. it takes very much cooperation and tactics with teammates to be successful. if one person is not doing their job correctly, it could cost the match. i just found out last night that i could "heal" my vehicle by accident. i got out of the raptor because it was on fire and smoking, and started shooting the link gun and noticed it was a red stream attached to the vehicle. it brought it back to 100% health and i got back in and got back to business. this game never seems EDIT: ceases to amaze me with its incredible visuals, sound effects, and gameplay. it is one of the best i have ever played and has more depth than any other in my opinion. p.s. i do not care for RPGs; i realize they can get very deep...just not my cup of tea.

pc gaming is in the dumps. all these studios need to re-focus on the consoles.

I think you mean never "ceases" to amaze me.

At least that's what I think you mean.

I can't wait to get this game. I haven't played the franchise since the original UT for PC because my PC is STILL THAT OLD. I demoed it at the local mom-pop game shop and instantly fell back in love with it!

Given the popularity of the title is be surprised if it wasn't selling well. I plan on picking it up myself.

I was not a FPS fan until I played this game. Now I am one. Played it, loved it, then went and got Resistance and COD4.

This game is awesome.

The game looks incredible, I just can't bring myself to purchase a FPS that doesn't offer multiplayer. That's such a BASIC feature in shooters, no reason for it not to be in this game.

What do you mean doesn't offer multiplayer? It can be played online right?
