Default Ever thought that Akira should be launched on blu?

Although I'm not into anime, I thought I should do a thread on what would happen if the movie Akira was brought over to BD. What would you think?

When /where was it announced? I've got the SD DVD of Akira in the Metal Case sitting at home. I would love to get in Blu.

I wonder how the transfer will be on this one. In any case, I am very excited to see this coming on Blu-ray.

Akira is pretty much my favorite anime film. I'll wait to see how the transfer is before replacing my DVD though.

Actually Akira was supposed to come out the same time the 1st Patlabor came out on Blu here in Japan. I dont know why it was pushed back. I know I hit like 5 video places when I thought it supposed to have been released before i found out it wasnt released

There is an import version (region A), but I don't think it has English subs, and from what I understand it was rushed pretty hastily out the door to give people's BR players something to do. If there is a forthcoming Bandai release in the U.S., I haven't yet heard anything official. (I also have no idea if they would be using their own telecine or the one that was made for Geneon/Pioneer, who are now defunct)

It wasn't released. It was held back. The US release will come out at approximately the same time. The telecine that Pioneer did was in conjunction with Bandai

Thanks, this is probably one of the only titles that I would consider paying $60 for...

Course...I've got my DVD tin, so I'm happy for now, but a blu version could be interesting...

Thanks for the clarifications. I wasn't sure who was originally responsible for the Pioneer/Geneon-released telecine, and I did see pre-orders being taken for the Japanese BD -- although I never did follow up and see if they had actually been shipped!

I would really like to see Akira on Blu-ray, but not for $60! (Assuming a US release) If any company thinks they can charge that much for 1 movie they are nuts and anyone who supports that is a douche, even for Akira. If it's a US release I wouldn't pay more than $27.50 (street price). MSRP can be $39.99.

Back in the days we were paying $30 for a 30 min vhs for anime titles. I wouldn't mine paying $60 for Akira. I'm still waiting on Patlabor

There have been many threads containing explanations as to why Bandai titles are so expensive, just use the search function
