Question 300---> PQ... please help!

So i was told by a few people that the movie 300 was supposed to be amazing. Did i get a bad (disc) version of this film, or is it just naturally grainy.

I have a sony 46W3000 with the sony S300 using HDMI cables. (about 95% of the movies I have watched were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, and this is the ONLY one that i have been EXTREMELY disappointed in) I set the format on auto, but also changed it manually to 1080P (after looking at the other formats only to see they were not even acceptable on my 13" bathroom tv)

Has anyone else had this issue.

Ps. I Found that it was worse on VIVID, and seemed to look a little more justifiable on CINEMA mode, which i dont mind watching, but still looked like snow.

Thanks in advance.

It was made grainy on purpose, the Blu-ray adds better color and detail (and audio). If u dont think the Blu looks good then rent the 300 DVD and compare.

There are many threads on this already. The film is naturally like that, it was the director's intention to add in grain to make it more realistic.

What do you mean by it looks like snow? Do you mean it's grainy? If so, then that's how the director intended the film to look like. It's artificial grain that was added to enhance the movie. Anyways, I also noticed that you use the normal calibration settings on the Sony TV "Vivid" and "Cinema". Have you tried calibrating your TV? It looks much better when you set it correctly which goes along with your environment (seating, lighting, ect).

I have the KDL-46XBR2 and I think that the movie looks great.

Do you have any tips for the calibrating it? I would like to enhance my viewing pleasure.

But Frodo can become invisible, and use his blanket to turn into a boulder that covers him and 1 fat person named Rudy

The real problem with 300 is that the filmmaker decided to ramp up the digital grain to cover up all the blue and green screen work in the film. Without the added grain the whole movie would have looked very fake. Most of the backgrounds in the movie are cgi. This is not a reference transfer but that is true to the original theatrical exhibition of the movie. If you're familiar with the tier ranking system used on other sites the 300 BD is really no better than a top of tier 2 release. Go watch Cars and see if you like the picture quality of that. It will blow your mind.
