Great film, but also a low-budget indie one so don't know if it'll benefit from a HD makeover. Hopefully I'll be wrong.

Will be good to see this again, I randomly caught it one night on TV and enjoyed it.

Love this film, be tempted to pick it up if the extras have been transferred. Picked up the DVD a few months back which is great, very personal approach to behind the scenes stuff (most of it filmed handheld by the director at a bar) and I haven't even gotten to the two commentaries yet.

Anyone happen to pick this up?

PQ & Audio, extras, region-free?

Never liked (horrible characters and badly written) this although it'll get a wee bit of interest thanks to the sometimes good Jesse Eisenberg (who now has a large picture on the artwork). Some of the special features look interesting on the Artisan (now Lionsgate) Region 1 DVD.

I had this on my PVR off the BBC I think and I can't see why it wouldn't benefit from a bit of HD love.

Very odd choice for a Blu-ray.

I'm interested in a review of the Blu-ray, not a critique of the film. I really couldn't care less about those who hold a general interest in Jesse Eisenberg's early filmography.

I own the R1, which is indeed loaded with special features, and find Dylan Kidd's debut to be wonderfully written. The screenplay is entertaining enough just to read. Few actually are.

Hopefully, someone who grabs this will chime in with some relavant details at some point.

You've come to the wrong place. This is called a 'forum'. I'll let you Google that word so you can check what it means.

There used to be a 'forum' on DVDs in the USA where people were banned from talking about anything other than the digital content of the disc. We're a lot smarter here so we can expand our opinions a bit more hopefully.

What people think of the film is important as it's gives people an idea of what to expect and how much they might want to pay etc. It's called 'information'.

If you don't like it ignore it and just wait for the technical review or you'll be posting on every thread saying "I don't want to know that".

You could have made your point more effectively without the snarky dissertation.

Appreciate the tip. Any further extemporaneous thoughts you or others care to share on the film itself, I'll be sure to overlook.

Personally I really like the film and have seen it several times on dvd. Like others though I'm waiting for someone to comment on the BD PQ before I pull the trigger. Will probably wait till it's cheaper anyway so am in no rush.

Glad I was of some help -just a pity you'll never share your thoughts on anything on this forum to help others decide on things. You know, like a community.

And BTW folks this is not a 'Jesse Eisenberg film' -don't let that new cover fool you. This a 2002 film.

The Driver your opinion is appreciated, even if I disagree with it. Forums would be boring if everyone agreed

I sent an e-mail to StudioCanal asking about lossless audio, extras & English subs and this is their reply:

Thank you for your email and interest in the title Roger Dodger. The audio for the BR version is 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio, which is lossless. Unfortunately, there are no English subtitles on the title, and the extras are as follows:

• Two Audio Commentaries: Director Dylan Kidd and Cast Members Jesse Eisenberg
and Campbell Scott, Director Dylan Kidd and Cinematographer Joaquin Baca-Asay
• Director’s Preface to the Special Features
• Examination of a Scene: Opaline
• New York At Night: the Roger Dodger Walking Tour with Jesse Eisenberg
• Deleted Scene with Optional Director’s Commentary
• 5 Mini Featurettes Featuring Interviews with Composer, Producer and More
• Trailers

Regards,

StudioCanal

Looks like they've just carried over the extras from the dvd. I'm more interested in what the PQ is like. It's on my Lovefilm rental list so I can try it out before buying it.

This was on my Lovefilm rental list, and I just got an email saying it's been posted out. I already have the dvd but want to see what the PQ is like before purchasing. Will let you guys know what it's like within the next few days.

UPDATE: Well I got my BD from Lovefilm, and gave it a good look. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it doesn't look much better than the dvd - a marginal upgrade at best. It doesn't help that a lot of the film is set at night - hardly ideal scenes for the BD to show off any significant PQ improvements. But even the day stuff was only marginally better. I don't think I'm gonna bother with an upgrade myself, unless I see it really cheap. Oh yeah, FYI...all of the dvd extras seem to be present.

While I'm disappointed that the BD represents just a marginal bump in PQ, I'm not all that surprised to have it confirmed. Thanks very much for the review nightcrawler.

I suspect I'll be sticking with the DVD as well.
