Even though the second and third films were straight to video, they were entertaining. The last time I had seen them was back when the third film came out in like 1999 or 2000. And I managed to catch the the third film dubbed in German a few years back when I lived in Germany.

From Matt Fini over at AVS:

I was sent this Blu-ray to review for Dread Central, so I've seen it.

It doesn't look all that great, to be honest. The image isn't clean, nor is it very detailed. It's a DVD upscale, more or less. It's better than the old Dimension DVD, however, and it's anamorphic to boot so I guess that's a plus.

This flick IS NOT cropped at 1.78:1, despite what the back of the box claims. 2.35:1 (or 2.39? - I'm not sure entirely) all the way.

Heck, I'm in - they kept the OAR, and I think it's been pretty well established that Echo Bridge isn't gonna be changing it's way even if nobody buys it. The DVD was non-anamorphic and "Digital Stereo" only, so I'm willing to spend ~$10-12 for this.

The aspect ratio news is good (cancelled my pre-order due to the possibility of the wrong ratio), but I'll need to see picks before I order it again as I do still have the HDNet Movies version and lesser video quality (especially an upscale) would not be worth the purchase.

Hopefully this will show up at K-mart real cheap! I found my copy of Halloween 6 there and saw a bunch of Echo Bridge blu rays there as well this past spring for only $7.99 each.

Writers need to stop using the term "DVD upscale". It almost certainly is not literally an upscaled 480i image. It is fine to say it is "almost like a DVD upscale", as a simile. But there are many people who, on reading that, would think it is an upscaled picture. Also there's no such thing as an anamorphic BluRay.

It's shorthand for a Blu-ray with little visible resolution above 480p. Obviously very few true upscaled DVDs exist on Blu-ray, but some are created from such bad masters they might as well have been taken from a DVD. A company like Echo Bridge probably acquired broadcast masters intended for syndication and cable distribution. That is what most of them appear to be from as Echo Bridge is not creating new transfers at all.

Oh, I concur.
Saying something is "an upscale" is my pet peeve as of late.

I received my copy from Amazon yesterday. I didn't have time to watch it, but I sampled a few scenes. It definitely is OAR, but the picture quality is pretty bad. I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it really is over the DVD. The transfer appears to be HD, but it really doesn't have much detail. Too bad Lionsgate didn't pick this one up instead of Echo Bridge.

That's a shame, as I have the DVD, and it has some really nice visuals that could look gorgeous in (a nice restored) HD print. The sound too seemed flat on DVD, but appeared to have the potential for a full spacious soundstage.

Looks like I'll be waiting a while longer for this on Blu.

Come on guys, what did you expect from Echo Bridge- a pristine A/V quality Blu-ray? That's not going to happen! Any forthcoming Echo Bridge blu-rays, get prepared to expect the worse. Sorry, but I'm just keeping it real!

Sure, we all expected the worst...but at the same time, I think fans of the film were hoping that it might at least be an acceptable transfer. Not great, or even particularly good...but acceptable. Like Echo Bridge's release of Dead Man. Not a brilliant transfer, by any stretch, but it doesn't look awful, either...as those screenshots at HTF clearly demonstrate this Prohpecy transfer to be.

But it does look like an upconvert of a standard definition master.

I love the film (not the sequels), fingers crossed for a proper release later on.

You can bet that Echo Bridge will eventually bundle this movie with its sequels on a combo BD. They do that practice with all franchises, so I will wait for the combo disc.

Wow! They just added texture to it - the same way people hide JPG artifacts by adding texture. it's the cheapest trick. It doesn't add any detail at all, but it tricks the mind into filling in some detail, by using parts of the texture that seem to make sense.

Not getting this BluRay. No way.

Normally I wouldn't buy a disc his bad but with The Prophecy this is the only way for it to fill the screen. I have the old DVD and it isn't anamorphic and it's only stereo. For 10 bucks it isn't bad.
