Since I am waiting for Big Daddy's review of his Yamaha RX-A3010, I decided to compare my older Sony BDP-S350 to my Yamaha 667 in the meantime
![]() Well first of all the two players are not even in the same category, so it is kind of unfair but it matches in price lol. My latest BluRay concert demo is (A Musicares Tribute to NEIL YOUNG) It sounds amazing and everyone who performs are so different in so many ways. You can hear all kinds of different sounds, it is truly awesome ![]() Well right off the bat the Yamaha won in sound!! Picture quality is also so much better then the Sony. I don't have an Oppo yet, but I am sure you cannot get any better then the Oppo 93 or 95 The Yamaha, Denon and Marantz are in the same category, and sadly the Sony falls into the Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic category which is entry level indeed. The only Sony that was the best BluRay player was the BDP-S5000ES which sadly is no longer around. Plus Sony ES is also gone which ended an Era in its own right. So basically I am saying if you want entry level buy the Sammy, Panny etc. if you want something much better, get the Denon, Yammy etc. or if you want the best buy the Oppo 93 or 95 ![]() I never thought that this Sony is so entry level until I compared it to the Yamaha 667 BluRay player. ![]() Next I am buying the Oppo 93 in early Spring ![]() Emo |

No way this is not a rebadged Sharp!! I had a Pioneer BDP 330 which was a rebadged Sharp and it was a total waste in time and money. This Yamaha is only on sale because it was last years model, but trust me it is so worth it for $155 or $157 which I paid for it ![]() It's much better then the Sony or Sharp etc. etc. Sharp only merged with Pioneer lol and you can see it in their products, Pioneer in my opinion will never be Elite as they once were. Go buy one, I love this Yamaha but I will have to try the Oppo 93 next year ![]() |

To be honest if you actually believe what you are saying you should save your money and not waste it on an OPPO. Having owned a sony bdp-S460, Panasonic BDP-85K, Panasonic BDt-350, and Oppo BDP-93 I think you will be in for a world of dissapointment. I would put my according to you entry level panasonic BDT-350 against the oppo in terms of Picture and Sound Quality for Blu-ray playback. The Oppo May and I do mean May as in might have slightly better DVD scalling but its probably too close to be noticable really.
Just my 2 cents Thanks, T |

So are you saying, I should stick with my Yammy 667?? I would like to try the Oppo 93, but now you scared the hell out of me, because I am a very picky person when it comes to Audio and Video. If it ain't right, I do not want it. lol ![]() So should I look into the Yamaha Aventage BD-S1010 which costs $499 like the Oppo?? Please let me know what I should do? Maybe I should just stick to Yamaha lol Emo |

build quality. It is a well built system. But what I am saying is that calling some of the other units you have called entry level are not as bad as you make them out. I think there may be a slight bit of plecebo effect in your judging. Not saying there is no difference but I don't think many would see the same difference.
Thanks, T |

You can also look at the Yamaha 671 which is around $225 and that is this years model and should be better but or $155 the 667 is a bargain ![]() Go get one until they last, Amazon might be selling out of them like candy at these prices. Good luck but don't hassle with Pioneer, God the Elite stuff was heaven back in the day and Denon, Marantz were trying to catch up, but today Pioneer and Pioneer Elite are not king in the AV World sadly. |

I want audio and video quality to be the best and the built quality of the unit has to be awesome as well. Do you still have your Oppo 93? Which out of the three do you like the best, Ony, Panny or Oppo?? I like my Yammy 667 but I would like a little better built quality with he same features like super fast load times and quiet playback ![]() |

yes I have the Oppo still. I purchased it to replace the DMP-BDT350 Panasonic because It had begun showing signs of finally going out. I bought the Oppo because I had the funds for it and figured I would see what all the fuss was about. What I have seen is that the Panasonic was also a sonic powerhouse with both good HDMI digital processing and the analog section was pretty good as well. Video Quality is the Same between them for HD sources and the Panasonic held its own for DVD upscaling as well. To be honest I was not Wow'd at all with the oppo as it doesn't really offer any visual improvement over the panny it replaced. I am not saying its a bad unit because its not and it does offer some Universal audio support (like SACD) that the panny didn't have but since I don't own any SACD's thats not that big of a deal for me. If I needed to buy another player today I would try for another Oppo (the build quality on this unit appears to be worth the cost) But if I didn't have that much extra to spare I would absolutly reccomend the newer Panasonics (I have in use on my other setup the DMP-BDP85) as a matter of fact my backup player is a Panasonic DMP-BDT110 and the video playback and digital audio streaming is perfectly acceptable for a backup and I wouldn't complain if it was my primary either. The Sony N460 I have is not bad but is ever so slightly behind the Oppo and Panasonic. It is still a very good unit for HD content. It doesn't have the analog section as it is a mid tier Sony (better then the 300's but not as good as the 5 or 700's) so I can only attest to the Digital HDMI processing which for Bitstream is just fine.
Thanks, T |
