I know there are several out there and I've read here and there how "this one sucks" and what-not but I'm just curious what mag you believe gives the best (and hopefully) the most unbiased previews / reviews?
I know there are sites that get the info out sooner but I can't kick the desire to have actual pages in front of me and just sit and read about new games. It's... just more fun then going to a site. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Going with a Playstation-only magazine is a kiss-butt fest kind of deal. Plus, they dropped the demo disk, so their crutch is now gone. EGM buddy. They're the best. |

You are thinking of OPM who went under a couple of years ago. Playstation Magazine recently became the new "Official" Playstation magazine, who didn't really have demos to begin with. Anyway, I would go with Game Informer. They tend to have a good overall broad coverage of all systems(including PC). Plus if you get a dicsount card at EB/Gamestop you get a 10 issue subscription.

As far as Game Informer, it's decent, but I still get the feeling that it is cheap. I think the only reason it is around is so that it can be sold with a Gamestop discount card. If it wasn't for Gamestop, there is NO way the magazine would be able to survive. Print magazines are becoming are hard business to stay in unless you either have the subscribers or the financial backing. EGM has a great sense of humor about videogames, and the editors and writers have been gaming forever. Their monthly articles (Seanbaby's for instance) keep me coming back, and I always get a kick out of their magazine. It is one of the few that I will pay for year after year, because it is worth it. I wouldn't be a Game Informer subscriber if it didn't come with a card. It's just a gimmick. Supposedly I can renew my card without renewing my subscription, and it will only cost a couple of dollars. I think I'll do that. |

Ha, threadpolice. Good one. You could say that about anything though. Save natural resources, blah blah. I'd like to see how much you save.

Don't get Game Informer, I seems to me that they review all the games with rose-colored glasses on. I think they are more interested in getting you to buy a game than giving you an honest review.

You get more screenshots, and you get videos, trailers, etc. Plus lots of different opinions of the game, not just a few people that might have their palms greased by advertisers. |

not to mention that internet access is MUCH faster than a magazines publication. The last mag I used to purchase was OPM and that was only bc of the demo included but with demos now for downlaod online, there really isnt a point to buying a mag

to me EGM seems more like Gamestop, biased, anything Xbox is great and anything PS3 already has points against it. I have a subscription to EGM but will not renew it, I do however like the new OPM, unlike PSM they now have more insight and work with Sony for a better mag. Just my opinion though

I like PSM, it's not so pricey either. There's also that membership you can join at GameStop or EBgames; I think it's like $15 and you get a video game magazine subscription and a membership card that gets you extra if you want to trade a game in, or a discount on used games. I usually buy video games at Best Buy or Sears (I know, weird, who buys video games at Sears? I get 10% off

Thanks for the responses. I got the latest EGM yesterday and it's quite nice. Debating on whether I should actually subscribe to it or not though. I suppose in retrospect there really isn't a need to pay for info you can get online (and faster). Still miss the magazines I used to get back in the day, though.

Actually just yesterday I ran across this and checked out P3Zine which is pretty interesting. I actually like the PDF magazine thing. Thanks. |
