If you have the DVDs of these movies don't bother picking these up unless you just like the BD cases as these are the exact same transfer as the DVDs

The Source is the longer cut though. Can't say much about H3 or Endgame but I'd reckon they will be an upgrade, doubt seriously these will be upscaled (if that is what you are implying).

LOL, Highlander 2 was horrible quality. I cannot believe that was a studio release. But, I don't think Davis-Pranzer were touching up Highlander 3 and 4.

The "director's cut" has some additional effects: Kane stepping out of a portal on the New York docks as opposed to him just seen walking on the docks, some slightly altered CG effects on the glasses that Kane nicks from the street hustler and some alternate music. Basically it is mostly alternate footage so the change in running time is minimal.

My order arrived today!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And for anyone who likes this movie and doesn't have a region free player, you're in luck as this one is all region. ![]() As far as PQ, I can't say definitively, but from the first 5 minutes or so that I saw, the PQ is much better than the non anamorphic letterboxed DVD. The image quality isn't as good as say the German released Open Range Blu-ray, but it's not a disaster either. From what I saw, on a scale of 1-5 I'd give it a 3 to 3.5. |

Watched it.
There are a couple of German subtitles, which are burned into the film. The first part comes up with the first bit of Japanese is spoken, at this time, English subtitles appear at the top of the frame (not burned in). This is the only time german subtitles appear when another language is spoken. All other foreign languages are English subtitled (when the English language track is selected). The second bit appears when the title for a Museum is displayed, again, the English subtitle appears at the top of the frame. Picture quality is a bit of a mess.. could be upscaled for all I can tell. Its not horrifically bad, but certainly not as good as I had hoped. The audio is fine though, no problems that I could hear. Overall It was worth the risk in blind buying (in terms of no reviews) .. great to see this film again after so many years. This is the European Version "Highlander is out there somewhere, and he owes me for all those years." ps - What Highlander film has them on the alien planet?! and in the cave with the metal blindfolds/viewers? Was that the original Theatrical version of Highlander The Quickening? If so, I need to track that version down again.. |

Planet Zeist was in the original version of Highlander II, before Highlander II was reedited to make Planet Zeist the "distant past" instead of "another planet". In the US, Highlander II on BluRay is the "distant past" revision, not Planet Zeist.

So is this the German BD the same as the American "special director's cut" version? I saw the comment about added cgi and alternate scene, etc., but I know the U.S. extended cut or whatever it was called had more sex with deborah unger and more flashback scenes featuring the two in France, etc.
I see that the special director's cut running time is 106 minutes, where as the theatrical cut was only 99 minutes. ![]() Thanks for the help. |
