From what I've been reading online in regards to the Martin Scorsese Film Foundation 4K restoration of Visconti's classic 'The Leopard' is that it is available in France, Italy and now Australia - all in it's proper aspect ratio of 2.55 Unfortunantely the French edition is not English subbed (not sure on the region locking). The Medusa Italian release does have English subs but has boosted colors and is Region B locked. I have yet to see the Australian edition, but since it is english subbed and used the new restored picture, has anyone seen it and can comment on it specifically if the video is not boosted.

I received this today. No black level issue and the screencaps I took look like the French disc with slightly different colors.
compare to andreasy969's caps of the Italian disc here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/italy/1835...-visconti.html ![]() ![]() ![]() compare to French caps here: http://criterioncast.com/2010/12/05/...e-restoration/ ![]() ![]() and one to match both the Italian and French caps: ![]() Subs are pale yellow and appear outside the image frame (partially inside when its two lines). Both of those sites are now out of stock unfortunately. Anyone else here willing to part with theirs for a good price? Any other links would be greatly appreciated as well.

I don't love your chances, but if you ring up or ask in store for them to look it up for you, they might have one showing up in a random store somewhere that they can get delivered in for you. Worth a shot. And if you can find it elsewhere, my advice would be to pay whatever they're asking, the blu-ray's quality cannot be overstated, it's easily my favourite disc in my collection. |

Just wanted to say that I put an ad here, about trading The Fury (OOP) for The Leopard in case anyone would be interested.

Recently I found a brand new copy on eBay for $9.99 + $3 shipping. Needless to say I snapped it up immediately. It arrived with a broken case but the disc and cover were perfect so it's not a big deal. Just before I found it, someone offered me a copy for $50 and I was lightly considering it. Phew. Talk about good luck.

This will most likely be an exercise in futility, BUT...Should anyone who already has a copy/isn't relentlessly searching for this themselves either A)encounter this anywhere, new or used, and be open to playing middleman in an international transaction for a reasonable small bonus compensation, or B) have a personal copy you'd be willing to part with for a non-insane price, please PM me. Thanks.

I have never been able to find a copy of the Australian re-release. I know it is the best transfer of the film with English subtitles, but it seems impossible to find. The second best bet appears to be an Italian release - which I forgot even existed - which comes with English subtitles and even a bonus documentary from director Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso), and the documentary is also subtitled in English. It is also from the 4K restoration from Scorsese, it contains the almost-identical print source, but is ever so slightly boosted in color. Not as good as the Australian but a close second. It is probably the best version to own that is also easily found, readily obtainable. Personally, I now feel it might be worth picking up and I now plan to get this version of The Leopard. It is Region B locked so you will need a region free player but that seems to be the only major downside (for some potential customers) IMO. The next time I place an order from Amazon IT I will be ordering this release. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Il-Ga.../79868/#Review Last edited by GenPion; 07-12-2014 at 06:23 PM. |
