I know I have more respect for Bill Hunt by miles and even that CNET editor who recently put his foot down and took a stand vs. the likes of what I'm seeing in magazines like WSR, for example.

Hey Gary - thanks for the thoughtful reply.

After seeing the flaming Bill Hunt took on the AVS forum from the hd-dud fanbois, it seems he can't win either way! He went head to head with them for a while, so now I feel bad for my comments.

But I still say that less of a sitting on the fence approach and saying "both formats are just great!", and more of a clear cut "this format is better" would help in the long run. Sure, you'd get shot at from the fanbois in the short term... but better than helping drag out this situation and get constantly knocked about by them for months on end.

If you have a couple of minutes to kill, here's something you can do.

Go to AVS. Use the forum wide search engine. Put in the name "Bill Hunt" or "Digital Bits" or some other publication and let 'er rip.

Watch how many threads pop up from the past that are full of borderline defamation and libel material almost always from the same rabid HD-DVD zealots against anyone or anything that dares to suggest anything less than God like status for their "beloved format."

A few things to keep in mind when you look at that stuff:

1.) The worst threads were either moved to the archives or wisely deleted by the mods there.

and/or

2.) If certain threads were left in tact (and usually closed) it was after some serious editing, deleting, and censoring of some of the more blatant and legally vulnerable posts.

Some of us have been around for a while and have seen those threads while they were in full bloom, so certain people are kidding themselves if they think a little post delete or thread delete means it never happened.

Agreed.

JTK --

No argument there... Bill has taken a real bashing and I can see that now. Like I said, I feel bad for my own comments. Though those are tame, and perhaps even constructive, compared to some from the morons on AVS.

It's not even close. No worries.
