A very nice transfer of this Cronenberg film, one of my favorites of his. Beautiful color and looks much better than the theatrical prints on this film did. The effects shots are, naturally, softer than the rest and that's as it should be.

What aspect ratio would you think? Seems to be 1.85 to me, or if not it's 1.78, either way is fine for this film.
The menu says forced subs, but I was able to easily go into the Oppo's audio menu and turn them off. BD 50 Last edited by whitesheik; 01-20-2012 at 12:12 AM. |

Not in the United States - it was projected as all movies are, in 1.85. It was shot for that ratio. If the director likes it opened to 1.66 (and I would have to hear it from his mouth) that's fine, but here it was projected in 1.85 and therefore this transfer is pretty much what it should be.

The Criterion DVD which was released a few years ago was presented in "David Cronenberg’s preferred aspect ratio of 1.66:1": http://www.criterionforum.org/DVD-re...-collection/38
Anyway, a poster in another forum says that the French BD is 1080/50i and not 1080p. |

Just a quick note on this release. The French subs are removable. I know this was previously mentioned, but as this title is listed in the forced sub master thread, I thought I should post some clarification here that it can indeed be enjoyed with original English audio and no subtitles. Hope that helps some.

It is 1080i, according to this review.

By the way, if a movie in Blu-ray is 1080i at 25 frames per second instead of the usual 1080p at 24 frames per seconds like in movie theaters, there should be a 4% speed-up (24/25 = 0.96 = 1 - 4%) like what happens with PAL format, insn't it? |
