I know the feeling of rocketing towards 1,000...It's happening too fast. But I love it so much, I can't quit collecting.

SoCal is a great place to live in. Awesome weather and girls Hey bud, hook me up with some tickets to DCA.
Haha Al, I can try, man. :P I'm loving So Cal. It's gorgeous, and there is so much to do! Although...Why has it been so bloody cold lately? Not a fan.

Cool!! Thanks for looking out bud

Not sure but I think we are going to have a cold winter this season. Which I'm really happy. SoCal has been having odd weather recently.

Cool. You took some steps backwards for a while. Thinning out needless titles? I need to do the same. I have about 50 or so I need/want to sell off.
Congrats!

I agree. I really do appreciate having a decent library of films on hand.Collecting them gives me much pleasure, and I find it an enjoyable and worthwhile venture.

i guess i am a member of the 800+ collection club but i just don't have time to post every blu ray i have.

i am just curious to know if any of you guys are/were previously collecting dvds as well. i still have over 3500 dvds and i don't buy them anymore (only blu rays now) unless it's a really great movie that's only available on dvd.

i've always loved movies and collecting them is the one hobby that has stayed with me since i was a child. i used to be addicted to video games but not anymore; with collecting movies though, it just makes me happy, and i know that for a lot of people, they think of me as weird for having all these movies in my collection. i don't know about you guys but i have been really questioning myself though if i should continue with this or not. i started with collecting vhs all of which are now in a box still waiting to be disposed. i am afraid that my dvd collection will have the same fate and i still have a lot that i haven't really watched yet. and nope, i am not collecting just for the sake of collecting; i am collecting them because i love to watch movies. anyway, i am just thinking out loud and afraid that blu ray might be a thing of the past soon and whether or not i am throwing away my money. i guess i just need to consider how happy i am with this hobby and for as long as i am not being wasteful in other things, i should be okay. good to know i am not alone in this and that's the reason i am glad i joined this site!

I don't know if I would consider it lucky but I really wasn't into DVD's. I mean I have maybe 200 and at one time I was getting one or two during release week back in the day. 2000/02. Then I moved to Hawaii and stopped for the longest time. When HD DVD and Blu ray, I bought HD DVD because well the worked in dvd players. I think I got about 100 or so of them and after HD DVD lost the format war I started buying blu's like crazy. I started buying blu's in 2009. So I guess I say lucky because I didn't have to double dip a lot.

Yes - I have about 2500 DVDs and like you now only very rarely buy them. However I disagree completely with the logic of those who say they don't watch anything any more that is not on Blu-ray. Don't get me wrong. I love both the video and especially audio upgrade that Blu-ray brings to the table. But in the final analysis are we all about the latest and greatest technology or are we all about movies? To take an extreme example, let's say your favorite movie of all time is available in DVD format but will never get released on Blu-ray...and YES this will happen for some movies. Are you really going to pass on ever watching that movie just because it is not available on Blu-ray? I simply can not fathom that argument. I refuse to limit myself that way. I think those that have that opinion have drunk too much of the Blu-ray Kool-Aid.

I don't think you are weird. I think you have simply switched your addiction from video games to movies. Look up the definition of OCD when you get a chance.

Not sure I agree with you here. I have no doubt you love to watch movies as I am the same way. However I think you may be collecting just for the sake of collecting. (Not that there is anything wrong with that provided you aren't neglecting other things in your life). Look at it this way - If you wanted to watch every movie in your collection only one time and average watching one movie every single day it would take you over 9 years to complete the task. Let's say you can only average 3 movies per week. Now you are over 21 years to watch your entire collection. Now granted several hundred you have probably seen already. But then again...you watch some movies more than once too don't you? Favorites probably multiple times. Anyway...not trying to criticize at all. I am in the same boat you are. Just giving you something to think about.

Only you can judge how much enjoyment you get out of watching movies and whether or not you are "throwing away" your money. But I don't think Blu-ray will be going away for a long, long time. And even when it does you will still always be able to acquire a player and you still will have all your movies wont you?

Or maybe more appropriately...not neglecting other things in your life due to spending too much on movies (how you define too much only you can decide).

lucky you

well what ive done is made myself a custom collection i had probably around 600 plus dvds......well i basically made all my blu rays that werent Blu Ray/DVD combos into them. bought a bunch of 2 disk cases on ebay and started adding the dvds. ive done that so i have both formats (just in case the ps3 or region free blu ray player go down, and atleast id have a way to still watch the movies) lol i know im wierd but really its hard getting money back on dvds ive bought anyway so why not!! in the end its all good. i like knowing i have alot of dual formats even if they didnt come that way fromt he factory lol
