Default Is HD Sound worth the extra $$$

I am thinking of buying a Surround sound system to hook up with my PS3 and Samsung 37" Full HDTV. My livingroom is about 4x4 meters, would i hear a difference between normal surround sound (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.) and HD Surround Sound (HD DTS, True HD, etc.)?

I have no idea about these things so help is much appreciated...

Hi there!

Just as with 1080P/Screen size/Viewing distance it depends on 3 things:

- The quality of the speakers
- Your listening volume
- Your ears

Out of those I think volume matters the most. Great dynamics and distortion free level peaks (if your amp and loudspeakers can handle it) are only apparent if loud enough.

I'm actually selling a nice set of surround speakers by JMlabs Focal (5.0). Shoot me a PM if interested

I think it's a big difference and definitely worth it.

In some instances, the sound reproduction can be so authentic that if you close your eyes for a while, the suspension of disbelief is broken when you OPEN them!

Yes, I say go for it. We(my brother and I) had a Sony surround reciever that was pretty old. When he got the Onkyo 805 and I used an HDMI cable to run audio to the reciever the difference was like night and day. Before I had to turn up the volume, and now I have to turn it down!

Wanted to throw in my two cents. Sound is definitely worth it. These forums on Blu-ray.com will have a fountain of information in them in regards to sound set up etc. I have never started a new thread at this web site however, with a little patience and a TON of reading you will probably find the answer to your many questions.
