USA Macross 7

So it was 49 episodes long, wonder if it's any good and why it's never been released here.

I have only seen bits and pieces (a friend had all the episodes recorded in Japanese by a friend of hers who lived in Japan), but the tone is way silier than the original Macross (which is a feat, considering how Minmay saved Mankind by singing), and far far from the Macross Plus/ Macross Zero seriousness.

This being said, it is very good for a silly TV series in the Macross Universe, -very- heavy on music though.
And this is where it hurts us fans, because it is likely that we will never see this on American TV or even in a video release.

2 big road blocks:
- The Big West/Studio Nue vs / Tatsunoko - Harmony Gold feud. This is mostly for show, Harmony Gold wanting to preserve their rights to publish Robotech in 2 billion re-releases. It did not prevent Macross 2 (pretty bad, as to see itself pushed as "alternative Universe" by Kawamori) or Macross Plus to be published per example.
- The actual big problem is that the owner of the rights in Japan want to sell the rights to the music along with the rights to the anime visuals, and those rights are -hugely- expensive because of just how much music there is (and successful. The Macross F music albums -6 of them- have sold close to a million copies in Japan).

This plight has befallen onto Macross 7 as well as my favorite Macross Frontier.

Maross Zero (not heavy on music in this case) is in a sort of limbo because it's around that period (when Manga ent. or ADV were considering publishing it) that HG tried to ascertain their rights and sent a letter to cease and desist ... which scared them, even though a Tribunal granted BigWest/ Studio Nue all the rights pertaining to the Macross series (Tastunoko, and HG by extension- retaining only the rights to the images and music of the original TV series, period). Since then, HG said they didn't actually care that much about Zero, and would let it be published. But then ADV kinda folded into a bajillion different entities, and the interest of the public kinda switched to other things it seems.

Long story short, unless someone is willing to bank BIG TIME on macross 7 (unlikely on a show which is that dependant on the JPop of that time), I doubt it.

I'm still hoping for Frontier -more relevant I think-, but even then, it's not really something I would count on frankly.

Yeah I really hate all the roadblocks at times to getting anime over here, really disgusts me. I really want Macross Frontier because honestly we simply don't get enough Robotech material over here, Shadow Chronicles is 4 years old!

Play-Asia has the Macross Zero, & Frontier blu-ray/s: LINK. Beware because they are very pricey.

I had all the Macross series on DVD (except for Macross Frontier). My question is are they even going to release the continuation of the Shadow Chronicles. I'm very surprised that the original Macross has been released on blu-ray (same question goes for Macross Plus and Macross II).

The live action movie they're making, bet it will be Do You Remember Love, wonder if we'll ever get that either.

After seeing Sentinels again I'm even sadder that never took off, even if Shadow Chronicles did expand on it a bit. New ratings for the 3 series -
Macross - 10/10
Southern Cross - 8/10
New Generation - 9.5/10
Watching the 1 hour version of Macross' pilot, loving all these new special features that have never been released on American DVD before.

I agree, the Sentinels series would have been very interesting. I wonder why they didn't try to relaunch it?
