good thing. Even though I never buy commercial music, it's good to see that they are commited to higher quality

Always nice to have another company join the good side. I think the Blu-ray movie market will start out small and then grow to be as big as DVD over a few years. However, the Blu-ray audio market will be lucky to become anything more than a niche market.

it's hard to predict the future market with so many variables . Question is , do we really want one media to play on movies, music, games, data backup?
I think yes, but it's possible some in the industry may be opposed to it.
But I would definitelly buy higher definition music if it came out. I still prefer vinyl sound over compressed plasic sound of a cd.

So few people got a DVD-Audio Ready system, that can fully handly DVD-Audio quality (this goes too for SACD)... Whats the difference with HD sound then? I wonder how many people will be able to fully enjoy it... Its a good thing yeah, but I'm not going to buy a 192 kHz compatible set when I have a 96 kHz system for example, because I myself, personally I don't hear the difference... :?

yes, but you can't compare blu ray which has wide hardware, computer and gaming console support with dvd-a or SACD which had none of it and were badly marketed and only released in very limited numbers with a very, very limited mostly older content.

As far as resolution, I think 24bit/96khz is bound to become a standard. Most of the sound cards come that way now

Not really. Blu ray specs are more advanced than dvd. Actually it's 24bit/96khz 7.1ch. or 24bit/192khz 5.1 ch.

I like the sound of SACD quite a bit. The Rolling Stones title I have intentionally sounds like a great vinyl. Trouble is there just isn't enough SACDs to make it a noteworthy format. A lot of the music I buy is composed of new releases. The only two SACDs I own from the last few years that are even remotely close to being "new releases" are a Cardigans disc and a Snow Patrol disc. That said, I'm curious as to what the audio discs released on BDs will sound like but as I said before, they'll be a niche format at best.

I don't own SACd but probably will soon since the prices have fallen but I did listen to it at a friend's home and I was impressed by it. The problem with its adoption is that it didn't seek big recording studios to make it popular like we see blu ray. How can any format succeed if it doesn't appeal to younger generation that wants new content?
Obviously it can't. It seems like it's a niche product by design.

Exactly. I like some older music but the vast majority of what I listen on a regular basis is from the last 5 years.

I am exstatic!! I can't wait! I am DESPERATELY waiting for the entire pop cannon to be put into 5.1 LIKE A MADMAN!!!! I just pray that the option of stereo will still be there. Surely there is no question that they will have that option for when someone is using a system that is not a 5.1 set-up, eh? What do you all think or know about any of this?

If it is in 5.1 or higher, it can be downconverted to stereo.
