Out of Africa - March 6th, 2012 - Remastered Review

At Best Buy today, I found Out of Africa Blu/DVD/Digital Copy with a date of 2011 on it. I didn't see this one listed here. The original release has a 2010 date on it.

yes these are slips, sorta like Fight Clubs slip, the front cover is a fold out to open up like a book, then you would pull the slip up to get to the movie

No, all three versions are listed on blu-ray.com:

• 2010 original (BD/DVD flipper)
• 2011 repackaging (same BD/DVD flipper but with DC download added)
• 2012 remaster (BD/DVD/DC)

Our listing for the remaster says "Two-disc set (1 BD/DVD, 1 DVD)", but there is NO independent confirmation of the number of discs, much less whether or not it's still a flipper. In fact, since the two things we DO know are (a) it's remastered per Bill Hunt and (b) it's BD/DVD/DC per Amazon--not to mention that AFAIK Universal hasn't issued any new flippers since the initial batch other than repackaging) *and* most Universal DCs are download-only (if disc 1 is a flipper, the DVD-only disc would be for the DC)--this one is unlikely to be a flipper, though it can't be 100% ruled out. (I think it'll be 1 BD + 1 DVD + DC download; that's strictly my opinion, but it's informed by how Universal has handled most BDs with DVD and/or DC lately.)

I should also note that the DVD side of the flipper was the same as the 2005 20th Anniversary DVD, which was *not* the same master as the BD side. (I could tell the opening credits on the BD were redone digitally; the DVD had optically-mastered opening credits and the same menus as 2005.) We don't even know yet if the 2012 DVD will be remastered; Bill Hunt's confirmation of the remaster doesn't clearly say BD or DVD, though IMO it's safe to assume he meant BD. (Before the 2010 version came out, folks were strictly mad that it was a flipper; afterwards, complaints about the poor master only added fuel to the fire. Indeed, the digital opening credits were probably the sharpest part of the entire BD.)

I've wanted this one, but heard it was a terrible transfer. I'm looking forward to seeing this one remastered. Should look and sound beautiful!!

Look at the left side of the pic. It has that crease like a digibook and it doesn't show the year of when the movie came out on the bottom of the pic just like All Quiet On The Western Front. And we all know that AQOTWF will be a digibook.

I hope you are correct! A remaster AND digibook...I think I'll place my preorder and can always cancel if it's not a digibook. Although with the supposed improved PQ I may just keep it.

Not sure why but I have a good feeling it will have a digibook release. Just wish we have more pics. Hopefully more will show up in the coming weeks.
