Actually, it was Del Toro that directed Pan's Labyrinth. Cuaron directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Both would be good, but I believe Del Toro is the perfect choice for The Hobbit.

Ah, I got it mixed up, Cuaron produced it. I remembered seeing their names for The Hobbit and being very content w/ both.

I thought that "Pan's Labyrinth" was atrocious. One of the most horrible films I have ever seen PERIOD!!! What in the hell does the child have to be killed in it? Whatever it was pathetic through and through anyway. With that said...good luck with "The Hobbit" or "There And Back Again" movies...I can't wait!

I actually think that Del Toro woudl be one of the best possible choices for these films. It would also be nice to see Del Toro do a Halo movie.

It is due to be a multi-part TV Miniseries.

Is anything confirmed that Disney is involved? If so, does that mean I get Mord-Sith and Gars in Blu-ray? That would be awesome!

People (including myself) thought that about Alfonso Cuaron directing Harry Potter: Azkaban, since his two big films in the US were "Great Expectations" and "Y tu Mama Tambien". I found myself to be quite wrong in my initial dissension...

Bleh, same guy who did Great Expectations? Wow.

It's really just a matter of Del Toro being associated with certain types of movies more than anything, and in the comic-book sense of the matter to. If it works to break his genre stereotype, great. I'll wait till I see it, but I'm already anticipating not being too happy with Hobbit [independant of him being director] just from the feel of it being just 'another two movies for lord of the rings'.

Point to clarify : that is an emotional feeling/response, not a reasoned point of view. I'd like to be proven wrong in my assumption, I just also don't want to be proven wrong in my optimisim at the same time .
