Then I don't think you're remembering correctly... Jaws was released using polarized 3d in the theater, not anaglyph... and the 3d VHD used active shutter lcd glasses. The DVD was later released in the Sensio format.

All full-color, no red/blue.

I think they had different arrangements depending on the theater.

They were cardboard, but they were polarized.

I think there may have been an anaglyph dvd released at some point, perhaps that's what you're thinking of.

This is a really touching movie, especially for film buffs. I rented a DVD of Melies' films in college and was astounded by his imagination and experimentation, and that too at the turn of the century. He was the father of modern special effects.

I particularly liked the scene where Sacha Baron Cohen's face is looming over you, which makes him that much more intimidating in that moment. There were times where I was sort of taken out of the film and admiring the 3D or I'd suddenly be aware of the glasses. 3D isn't absolutely necessary to watch this film, but the 3D here is well done. I did notice, however, that when I took the glasses on and off, that the glasses added sort of a greenish tinge to the image, and that the image was brighter and more vibrant without the glasses. They really need to work on that. The overall dulling effect is a problem.

Well, you're probably right... it was a long time ago.

Either way, I think Hugo will do more for 3d than Jaws did.

I didn't even realize that was him, but he was the comedy relief in the film.

I see what you're saying about the shaded glasses darkening the film slightly. Once they figure out how to lighten the glasses up or better yet, eliminate them altogether , 3D will go mainstream at home provided the effect of dimension is just as good as with the 3D stereo glasses.

Agree on all points. The 3D was done right and added impressive effects but there is no doubt that it is distracting and takes away from the story. I recommend that everyone view this film in 2D. It is much brighter and more vibrant as you say, and there are no effects to get in the way of the characters and plot.

Default Best 3D Since Avatar!

This film is excellent and that's why it's receiving Best Picture nominations from all of the film awards. The 3D in Hugo is by far the best I have seen since Avatar! This movie has reaffirmed my belief in how wonderful 3D truly can be if done right! I am not a big component of 3D (though I do have a new 3D TV) and try to only buy the films that have high ratings. I don't want to watch 3D where there are cardboard characters and a lot of ghosting! Also, I viewed the trailer of Titanic 3D and have to say that it looks amazing and has really peaked my interest in seeing the film in IMAX coming to my city in April. Finally buying the Hugo 3D Blu Ray will be a no brainer as this movie in years to come will be considered a classic!
