Default Battle of BD Trilogy

My friend and I was having a "What if" conversation about which BD trilogy will top the other. The titles we came up with were, Star Wars 1-3, Star Wars 4-6, The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix (prroviding whenever they are released). To my disbelief, my friend said LOTR would out sell Star Wars, simply because he feels that LOTR has a larger fan base, because of the books, and that not many people will buy the "18th" re-release of Star Wars.

I totally disagree, I think it would go as follows:
Star Wars 4-6
Star Wars 1-3
Lord of the Rings
Matrix

Just wanted to get my fellow BD-ers thoughts

Realistically, my prediction is as follows:

SW 4-6 (episode numbers, not release sequence... aka THE OLD ONES! )
LOTR
SW 1-3
Matrix

*People never get bored of repurchasing the original Star Wars trilogy when they are rereleased. Star Wars is an obssessive compulsive disorder all its own. I know quite a few people who will whip out their wallets whenever they see the Star Wars logo before they even know what the item in the box is.

My personal order of preference:
LOTR
Matrix
SW 4-6
SW 1-3

Star Wars 4-6 will probably outsell the others, I think.

Default What about

What about
The Godfather Trilogy
Indianna Jones Trilogy
Back to the Future Trilogy

Where would they feature in the list?
I have no idea, but suspect Star Wars would still be tops

I'm personally looking forward to SW 1-3 myself. I never did upgrade from LD to DVD, and have no plans to do so now until they are released on Blu-ray, whenever that may be.

I'm actually kind of hoping that when Star Wars gets released, it's all 6 movies in one huge set.

If possible, I'd like it to include both the most updated 'special editions' AND original theatrical versions of all of the movies, where applicable, and if possible.

4-6 have obviously been changed a lot. There were the '97 SEs, then the 2004 DVD release which had even further changes done. I do think that we will likely see a few more changes and tweaks to these movies again, for better or for worse. I do hope that if they are going to make more changes, they fix the lightsabers. They've never updated them so far in any version, and of all the special effects, those stand out the most like a sore thumb.

Also, there will likely be some changes to Episode 1 (unfortunately none of them will involve removing Jar Jar from the film). There was already an altered clip from Episode 1 included in a bonus feature documentary on the Episode 3 DVD release that showed a CGI Yoda replacing the puppet version used in episode 1. Also, the DVD release of Ep 1 included an extended Pod Race sequence, so it would be cool if that was inlcuded with the CGI Yoda version of the movie, and if a straight theatrical version of the movie was also included.

As for Episodes 2 and 3, I don't think much changed from the theater to DVD releases. If anything did, they were tweaks that were so minor that it wouldn't even be worth releasing 2 versions. So, unless any more changes/additions are planned for them (in which case both versions should be included), just one version of each of these movies would be acceptible.

This release should be LOADED with extras. I'm talking anything they can include should be included.

As for Lord of the Rings, I personally am not a huge fan of the films. I do own the DVDs of both the theatrical and extended editions. I bought largely due to the hype, and at the time was going really nuts with buying DVDs. They aren't terrible movies, but they aren't that great either, IMO. I might get them on BD, but I would hope that both versions would be included in one release, and I would probably hold off until there is a good sale or something.

I'm really not even the biggest Star Wars fan around, but I like them more than enough that I would get the set upon release. For me, personally, "The" Trilogy, IMO, is Back to the Future. I know it would never sell nearly as well as these other movies, but it's the one that I personally look forward to the most.

Indiana Jones is no longer a trilogy
and are all of you forgetting Spider-man?? I think that may have outsold SW somehow even before SW has come out.

I also suspect when the Hobbit comes out on Blu, they will release the LOTR/Hobbit boxset. Hopefully LOTR extended editions will be on single 100GB BD by then so HD quality does not suffer and we don't need to flip or swap 2-50GB discs.

I agree that SW 4-6 will be the top seller but the rest I see it different here is my top 5 in order and I want all for of them for sure.

SW 4-6
SW 1-3
Indiana Jones

People should never underestimate the power of the Star Wars fan that is why they will be 1 and 2

It is hard to say but I know that SW fans are very.... enthusiastic. They will be willing to cough up a lot of dough for this. However LotR fans are more numerous. It is hard to say which will outsell the other.
However they are both welcome in my house... but I am more of a LotR fan. SW comes second to that.

I think the more respected trilogy is LOTR because it is a marvel in moviemaking. SW has always been respected in the same way but for being groundbreaking (OT). As far as sales go, if you look at the box office numbers, the NT is the highest grossing trilogy, then the OT (and this was back in the 70's and 80's people), then LOTR, and in a distant last is the Matrix. I would prefer to have them all.

I believe it would be:

LOTR
SW 4-6
The Godfather
SW 1-3
The Matrix
TMNT 1,2,3

Its hard to pin point who likes what anymore, you can look like a person who doesnt like anything and be a LOTR fan. I was shocked when my girl was a fan of LOTR, im a fan of all except Matrix

My vote is for Star Wars. I would think the audio for SW would be awsome, lightsabers, lasers, ships in lossless audio.

I would buy both SW and Lord of Rings since I don't own these titles on DVD.

What about the Alien or Terminator franchise? I really liked the first two Alien films. And if your talking blockbuster series what about Harry?

I would go:

LOTR
SW 4-6
Back to the Future (I can always watch these)
Alien
Spider-Man
Godfather
Indy
Matrix
SW 1-3
Terminator
Harry

I believe the trilogy (quadrilogy) battle would be:

1) Star Wars 4-6
2) LoTR
3) Indiana Jones 1-4
4) Star Wars 1-3
5) Alien 1-4
6) Matrix
7) Godfather Trilogy

For me personally I would buy all of them, but truthfully order of my preference:

1) LoTR
2) Star Wars 4-6
3) Alien 1-4
4) Star Wars 1-3
5) Indiana Jones 1-4
6) Matrix
7) Godfather Trilogy

I like Star Wars and LOTR, but I think if the Shrek Triology became available it might give them a run for their money!

I think if the Godfather came out as separate moves, nobody, and I mean NOBODY would buy #3, a boxed set will be the only way they can sell the flick.

I think LOTR and Star Wars 4-6 would be close.
But, what about all of those "Mighty Ducks" movies?

Kidding!
