Default A Scanner Darkly and Dog Day Afternoon April 10

http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-newsview.php?id=482

Quote:
Warner Home Video has announced 'A Scanner Darkly,' released for the first time on DVD late last year, and 'Dog Day Afternoon' starring Al Pacino will be released April 10 simultaneously on Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD.

All extra material found on the standard versions will be ported onto the high definition versions of both titles. Disc specs and artwork are expected to be made available shortly and we'll certainly pass them along.

'A Scanner Darkly' and 'Dog Day Afternoon' will both carry an SRP of $28.99 on Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD.

I'll probably be picking both of those up. I was just starting to wonder about content for April. Hopefully Warner will start a trend and give us LPCM.

Heck yes, I was waiting for A Scanner Darkly on Blu-ray. I love that film, and the great visual style will be perfect for viewing in 1080p.

A Scanner Darkly should look amazing. I saw Waking Life on HBO a few years back and it blew my mind.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

Dog Day Afternoon!

One of my favorites, and one of Al Pacino's greatest performances.

Thumbs up Cannot wait!

I have yet to see this film, though the great reviews lead me to purchase it. I cannot wait for it to arrive. I love the rotoscoping effect, plot looks solid, and seems to be Tarantinoesqu in style. What not to love eh? Hopefully someone can spread some joy and re-reinforce my enthusiasm

cheers and happy viewing!

I was going to pick up dog day afternoon today at frys. They had it for 19.99. But I noticed the audio is DD 1.0
Is this because the master had no decent audio, or is this another poor WB transfer? The HD-DVD copy had the same specs, so I passed on the movie until a later date. Anyone have this? Any complaints with it? There is one review for it here, but they gave it an 8 out of 10 for audio....kinda hard to believe with DD mono!!!

I would love to get this. I hope it gets a US release, I don't have the current blu-ray.

I'm assuming it will. Even though it's only a mono track, it'd be nice to get a lossless version of it...plus a new encode. I believe the old one was MPEG-2.

There's nothing inherently bad about a mono soundtrack if that's the way it was recorded and mastered. Look at how many Criterion films have mono sound.

The audio on the current blu-ray release is more than sufficient because, Dog Day Afternoon is predominately a dialogue driven film, as with the majority of Sidney Lument's movies.

Looks like this is coming out in less than a week in Taiwan. Wonder if there's anything interesting about it:
