PAL on PS3? - Blu-ray Forum

Is it possible to download some patch or any other tweak that would let me play PAL DVDs on the PS3?

I dont think the PS3 supports PAL format at all. Correct if i am wrong..but i did try it, and it did not work....let me know if you find out any tweaks for it.

u have to buy a ps3 from a pal territory because dvd region coding still stands with blu-ray and hd dvd

Yeah, I tried it too...put in a European DVD and the PS3 gave me a message saying it was PAL and would not play. Guess that's that.

The current system software (1.51) doesn't support PAL. When PS3 is released in PAL territory it will for sure be updated with PAL support. The question that remains is if the PAL support will be enabled in the PS3 sold in NTSC territory.

Note that Europe and Japan belong to the same DVD region, but Europe use PAL and Japan use NTSC. But for some reason European DVD players typically plays both PAL and NTSC, but (as far as I know) Japanese DVD players typically only plays NTSC. Sony might want to continue that tradition or just enable both PAL and NTSC on all PS3.

If you've got the time and you want to watch your PAL DVD's on a import PS3. Convert your DVD's using any good video software package (i use imtoo) to MP4. burn to a DVD-R and copy to your PS3's HDD.

This is what i do, no real loss of quatily. Hope it helps

you can use yasa dvd to mp4 converter to rip dvd movie to mp4 video for your ps3.It works well for me.
